422: Truly worthy menswear deals
Our menswear columnist curates the best sales of Black Friday weekend.
Welcome to Magasin Menswear. In this special-edition send, menswear columnist Louis Cheslaw shares his favorite sale picks for Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend.
Like last year, I’m doing a Black Friday weekend round-up for a very simple reason: These days, unless it’s vintage, long-lasting men’s clothing tends to cost a lot of money. And this weekend, it often costs much less. So, in no particular order, and following a self-set guideline that multiple sizes had to still be available, here are ~70 menswear deals that got my attention today—and note that some of these deals kick in after you add to cart.
I love my lifetime warranty Tough Traveler backpack, $238 $280, as much as I love their hideous website. Merz’s diamond-patterned thermal, $123 $145, is all gone in white, but surprisingly well-stocked in black. The Maximum Henry belt I wear every day, $107 $153, is $46 cheaper. I’ve personally been off loafers, but Yuketen’s, $371 $530, are more like slippers. Simon Merz told us a zip hoodie is the greatest item in menswear—the classic Champion is now just over $30 $55; this fancier The Elder Statesman one is nice too, $357 $595; as are these, too, 50% off heavyweight terry options from GAP, $54 $108; (who also have sub-$20 PJs today, $19 $50, and 50% off good jeans $40 $80.)
The greatest walking shoe from Merrell just dropped to under $98 $140, and I will always be happy to see someone in a Jungle Moc $82 $120. I’m a Smartwool ($86 $115) base layer ($86 $115) man myself—and that sale is no joke—but Uniqlo HEATTECH is way (to $30) down (also to $30) as we head into winter, as are the comfiest two (€77 €110) styles ($24 $38) of underwear I’ve ever been sent. (While you’re at CDLP, the socks rock, too, €92 €115.)
Perfumer H is 20% off sitewide—I love White Smoke, €144 €180, and Ink, €164 €205—and 30% off at Assembly, $188.30 $269, where this Gabriela Coll shirt is $200 cheaper, too ($450 $644). And I’ve been wearing this exact Colin Meredith puffer jacket, $214 $350, in brown all month—it’s excellent, and now almost 40% off.
Two good, stealth mode Nike sneakers are on sale, $75 $107, in many sizes, $108 $154. Hestra makes some of the best gloves, $140 $175. &Daughter’s Shrunken Crewneck, $409 $512, hits at the waist exactly where you want it to, and I reckon these ROA boots $508 $725 would easily get me through the next decade of English winters—though I’ll never retire my Blundstones, $170 $200, fully.
I feel like this Columbia fleece, $39 $65, would lift everyone’s mood, and how about this reversible Filson fleece-jacket combo ($149 $199)—or tough down jacket ($374 $499)? (This reversible Nanamica jacket, $413 $550 with the code BF25, is lovely, too.) Alternatively, if you’ve ever wanted an authentic hand-knit heavy Cowichan sweater, $590 $737, now would be the time. (Same goes for some stunning wool trousers $482 $690 from Seya.)
Still with me? Let’s round off with some newsletter-favorite designers, all on sale across the multi-brands. HAVEN’s Kaptain Sunshine selection includes nice discounts on a half-zip, $284 $406; cord shirt, $328 $468; and one-pocket denim jacket, $328 $468; while Mr Porter has their great polo $159 $265, and now almost half-price tee $66 $110. There’s a classic Batoner crewneck for $446 $595 at Mohawk, also with the code BF25, but lots of Sea Island Cotton Batoner $202 $289 at Lost & Found (who also have huge discounts on Comme $171 $487 shirting $133 $380).
Lady White Co.’s site is almost sold-through, but SSENSE has a good amount still on sale. I love this two-tone T-shirt, $166 $210, like this black wool shirt $257 $325, and already own this hoodie $255 $300. There’s also some good Mfpen to be found at Mohawk ($225 $300), SSENSE ($252 $315), and Porter ($243 $405). I think that the Rier fleece will survive all the memes and be remembered fondly, and it’s 30% off in the nicest colorway, $761 $1087. Also, Alex Mill’s Barbour riff is now sub-$200 ($195 $325), and a nice Our Legacy shirt is $100 cheaper, $300 $400. 25% off Orslow jeans $195 $260 is appreciated, but the same off this indigo jean jacket $371 $495 is even better. $70 has been chopped off this flowy ssstein button-up $237 $339, and these three pieces show why I want to make more time in Paris for Sage Nation, $377 $538; Cale $256 $365; and Nanamica $413 $550 next time.
