399: PFW Days 7 + 8 / Paris expense report
Lion's mane-ia, eely feelies, the week's top-shopped.
Magasin’s pop-up Fashion Week newsletter-within-a-newsletter, where we go on the ground to suss out hot shopping gossip from scenes of interest: Paris Fashion Week, Days 7 + 8.
Weather report
65ºF / 18º C — I’m now writing you from Lisbon, Portugal where the weather’s even more idyllic, although nothing could provide greater peace than relieving myself of the duties of wearing and documenting multiple outfits per day. Fun’s over, and now I get to secretly rot in the same comfy, boring basics and be barely perceived for a few days in Iberian absence.
Itinerary

Oct 5
3p High Sport showroom — the big hit for me was the straight-leg viscose pants with a faux fly…swishier than a crop, sleeker than a kick flare. And in red, too!
5p Drinks at Aux Deux Ami
6p Max Stein x Lauren Sherman cocktail at Montezuma Café
7:30p Dinner at Bistrot des Tournelles
Oct 6
9:30a Sacai show
12p McQueen re-see — never been happier to see the bumster come back. I think we’ve hit mass high-rise saturation and can only go lower from here (thank god we have Olga Basha and old Tom Ford Gucci until the mass market catches up).
2p Kristian-Kristian showroom — a new Danish shoe brand I was happy to discover. Their thing is Italian-made leather loafers and boots with a contrast patch of waxed suede that gives them a lived-in look.
3p Aurembiaix showroom — bummed to miss this one, and I might be buying this dress sight-unseen anyway.
4p Cristaseya appointment
5p Thom Browne show — god this guy can throw a show. The theater-goers were all out for Thom’s alien invasion (Anna Wintour glared me out of the way from her seat) and we got a reminder that it’s just fun to put on a flattering, well-fabric’ed in-universe skirt suit sometimes.

Shopping gossip

The animal print thing is on the rise in an obvious way (very un-taboo to be wearing a wild cat-styled fur coat lately, unless you are Lisa Aiken and getting your apartment stalked by PETA…which sadly happened), while other mammalian flourishes like pony hair have made their way onto objects like belts and slippers. Next up from the animal kingdom seems to be eel skin, which became a conversation point this week through products from Lemaire (these boots), Savette (a bag coming SS26), Khaite (current-season bag)…I’m also seeing it at By Far, Dolce & Gabbana, Saint Laurent, The Row, Liffner, Ferragamo, and Phoebe’s Club Slippers just kind of read eel to me, you know?
The fungi kingdom may have won out the week’s game of thrones, though, because everywhere I look I see LION’S MANE. More of an era-defining trend than a seasonal one, it’s those shaggy-legged pants and jacket from Phoebe Philo Collection 1, that skirt and jacket and heels and bag from current-season Dries Van Noten, it’s PFW runway looks from Loewe, The Row, and Chanel, MFW runways at Bottega and Brunello, NYFW’s Fforme and Calvin Klein…even the little polka dot merkins at Schiaparelli and Khaite were a form of micro-mane. This fuzzy mycelium fringe is dispersing its spores and spreading.
Additional lion’s mane shopping links—an Entire Studios coat, Stella McCartney jacket, Phoebe for Céline top (she’s long been on this tip), a Coperni mini dress…a whole mushroom cloud of fuzzy, fringy fashion.

Christen, the eponymous brand from Dior’s shoe designer, is opening up a store on Rue De La Paix.
We made it to the end of PFW, so here’s what everyone was most into from the week’s coverage: Uniqlo’s PUFFTECH Short Blouson that I wore on day 1 was the most ordered product, Repetto’s White Lucien Ballet Loafers drove the most clicks for being a close match to my Phoebe Philo high-vamp flats (for larger sizes only), followed closely by Sportmax’s Belted Coat, and Net-A-Porter was the top-shopped site…always a good bet.
Annnnddd what did I buy? Besides the Sportmax coat, I got a Dries scarf skirt, Cristaseya trousers and cashmere vest, Gucci by Demna heels, a Fortuny tassel for our ceiling light, Rubirosa’s shirt. And I was lucky enough to leave with some very special gifts: a Neous leather and suede bag, a new Ormaie fragrance, and an Azí silk pochette.
