My friend Vesper Ireland went to the Emily Weiss garage sale this week, which you’ve likely already read about in Feed Me, Line Sheet, etc…I think in New York, we’ve become used to this kind of shopping event being framed as a cultural touchpoint. Vesper even texted me from on-site in Brooklyn Heights: “Just overheard ‘this is going to a be a cut article or something.’” People inevitably need to offload their excess stuff from time to time, and despite a generation’s worth of well-intentioned apps and platforms that claim to lubricate the process, the old-fashioned method of face-to-face cash for goods remains king.

Here was our text exchange during the sale:

V: Just heard my friend got a Margaux 10 in black for $3500... doesn’t seem like a great deal.

V: Online for $4500. I want it for like $1500 haha. Or even $2500.

I left. I bought a little vintage table and a pair of Ludovic st sernin pants for $27. There was a really cute row set for $600 but I passed.

There are 10+ bags of clothes currently awaiting pickup by The RealReal and Crossroads in my closet, a huge cull that was way overdue, not to mention the rogue home and beauty goods I honestly just don’t know what to do with (and which having a basement make dangerously easy to ignore).

I’ve done many stoop and closet sales at varying production values, and definitely agree we’ve reached “peak” whatever this form of social shopping is, but seeing the pile-up that’s amassed makes me wonder if it wouldn’t be better to take matters into my own hands.

So, tell me: Would you travel to Bed Stuy in mid-December’s chilly air to rummage? What make a good garage sale? After all of the Black Friday and holiday shopping upcoming (and largely here already…more on that below, and you’ll definitely want to expand this email to read the full send this week), does anyone really need to be spending money in the world of rolling racks and folding tables?

What’s new

• COS has…a $1,300 piece of croc-embossed leather outerwear? The Scandi-modern H&M cousin brand has just launched its FW25 collection, and it takes a The Row-meets-Lauren Manoogian approach to this season, with fuzzy brushed cashmere vests, draped plinth-like dresses (we love this intentionally crinkled satin midi), and the ever-trendy (and flattering) high-water barrel-leg wool pants. While there is a clear dupe of the Elsa Peretti Bone Cuff from Tiffany & Co., one can’t help but wonder if COS is pre-gaming an attempt at mid-price luxury status with higher priced leather items like the croc-embossed pieces…watch this space.

• Bag watch! Most urgently: Tibi’s L.L.Bean collaboration Boat & Tote bag is back in stock after almost a year in limbo—when it launched last spring, it sold out in minutes, and I later spied one resell on The RealReal for over a grand (that’s better appreciation than a Birkin). Jacquemus’ new “Le Valérie,” named for Simone’s mother, is an excellent follow-up to his recent “Le Turismo,” which took the brand out of gimmick-ccessory-ville and into a more earnest accessible luxury tier. Nina Ricci launches Le Bal Bag, creative director Harris Reed’s answer to the competition’s Le Teckel, times to the holidays. Métier’s own Holiday Collection brings with it a small army of uncomfortably desirable bags—a quilted Private Eye! A fabulous ivory Parallel clutch, and with this strap! Meanwhile, Jamie Haller introduces bags as a whole new category; jewelry, too.

• Fun fact: Until the mid-century saw the mass industrialization of clothing via the post-war department store, children’s clothes were just tiny versions of adult clothes. Unintentionally following that tradition, Colbo introduces its collaboration Zara Kids, a children’s collection built by reimagining pieces from the Colbo archive in child sizes. Some standouts are the soft touch baggy pants, medium weight ribbed t-shirt, and bow pinafore dress, each of which exist in adult sizes as well on Colbo’s home shop. We can already imagine how adorable the family holiday cards are going to look.

• Kallmeyer just dropped its Resort 26 collection, and dare I say, it follows Elle Senior Fashion News Editor Alexandra Hildreth’s prediction of the rise of polished rock from earlier this summer. Apart from the more Iggy Pop-esque styling choices, like this fluid viscose draped top accessorized with a metal tassel belt, Kallmeyer’s latest features layered lace accents (see: this rendition of the Nola skirt and Leith mohair v-neck) and slouchy striped t-shirts reminiscent of glam and ’90s grunge rock periods, but fashion.

• There’s also: Andrea Ricci’s nostalgia-fueled JÉA launches its third capsule product, the 100% silk tassel cummerbund; sheer tinsel dresses and boucle outerwear in Liberowe’s Holiday Collection; Dorsey’s FW25 diamond launch (everything from tennis bracelets to minimal oval-cut collar-style necklaces, in such massive proportions allowed by lab-grown); the arrival of Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s slinky NYC-inspired capsule with Zara (the waxed bootcut jeans with that distinct leather look without the actual leather is inspired, to say the least); a restock of Dévé’s sold-out alphabet brooch in both silver and gold finishes; early access to Lauren Manoogian’s Holiday 2025 collection (there are a whole lot of gift-worthy pieces among your usual luxurious knitwear pieces like these fingerless gloves); and a temporary online shop for Cristaseya live until next Monday November 24, featuring a whole host of one-of-a-kind product from shirting to denim to glassware.

Home releases

• I spent the pre-kend up at Piaule to break in the new DWR furniture that now outfits the Main House, new Oak House, and cabins across the Catskills retreat. I spied pieces from Herman Miller, Fritz Hansen, Louis Poulsen, Carl Hansen,

  Risom, Cassina, and more. It reminded me of both my childhood home (the Cuba Lounge Chairs) and my current home (the PH5 pendant lights). Wish I could say the landscape-overlooking infinity pool and sauna were just like the ones in my own backyard but…maybe we’ll get there.

• Savette has entered the interior design space with an exclusive collection of home objects produced in collaboration with NYC-based home designer Alyssa Kapito. This debut capsule includes a trio of objects—a leather box, tray, and cachepot—each done in Savette’s signature Italian leathers with a distinctly ‘Kapito’ sculptural take (her interior design perspective bridges MCM and Ann Demeulemeester-esque twisted shapes, as in this home office). Each object is available in black, mink, and cream leathers and is priced in line with 1stDibs grails (the small leather dish goes for $400 while the large metal-lined size is $1,200).

What’s on sale

• The Row’s self-hosted private sale launched today at 10a, featuring women’s RTW, accessories (including bags), and men’s. The highest discounts run around 50%, like with this Ophelia-like sweater and the Pallenberg top that allegedly swept Hamptons moms by storm this summer. As for my own open tabs: a knit silk cropped hoodie, shearling thigh-high boots because I’m not practical, a wallet that’s actually a clutch. If I were a bride…this dress. Or a wedding guest…this one. And FYI, the stellar black trousers I wear in every recent outfit roundup are these, and down to $725.

• Khaite’s private sale is here, with a broad host of items (296, to be exact) both from past runway and ready-to-wear collections discounted 40%, which, for Khaite, is kind of unheard of. Since Khaite is what you’d call a “forever brand,” as in, you’d want to pass it to your children one day, the best sales come in the form of classics with a twist, like the knit Inna skirt, or the Ello jacket in fluffy eyelash yarn.

• Our close reportage of the Toryssaince continues this week with yet another expansion to the Tory Burch sale catalog, featuring new styles up to 40% off. All eyes are on new markdowns like the cap-toe mary janes (marked down from $375 to $299) and ballet flats (marked down from $300 to $179), as well as new colors and sizes of the Ella tote (the small size in chocolate is now under $200).

• Early access to the Le Monde Béryl archive sale is here, and nearly everything is 50% off. The sale features three colorways of the knit Regency slipper (the gold woven leather version is nearly sold out, per the recent metallic trend hitting critical mass), Mary Janes (both flats and heels), and even a couple lesser-seen limited editions like the Allegra mule.

• E-tail backstock mecca The Outnet currently has a ‘take 25% off (almost) everything’ promotion with BLACKFRIDAY, and it’s definitely not an oversell. You can go for value with Toteme outerwear like this quilted coat already marked down from $980 to $441 (which comes to $330 after the extra 25% off), or just go for maximum savings with pieces like this Frame jersey dress, which comes in at $132 after the extra discount. There’s actually something for everyone in this sale, from your Rick Owens devotees to Chloé-holics, and it’s definitely worth perusing.

• The Nour Hammour private sale is here, offering up to 40% off at checkout. Best sellers like the Evita shearling jacket come in at $1,715 as opposed to their $2.5k retail tag, with luxe capes like the Edra marked down sub-$1k (steal, especially for 100% shearling).

• Bergdorf has officially opened the doors to its 40% off Designer Sale, and it’s every bit as dangerous as expected. Think major pieces from labels most often paid full price for (see: this deliciously discounted Issey Miyake cape) and trend accessories that now operate in a more low-risk-high-reward category, like that one Jennifer Behr headband.

• Saks has brought in the big guns, with up to 50% off its designer sale. See some of The Row’s most wearable (yes, that includes those cigarette pants, now $537), and Loewe’s hottest heels from the end of its JWA era. This might be the rare sale of the year where you walk away with something you’ll actually reach for the seasons to come.

• Martiniano has quietly flipped on early access to its online sample sale. If you’ve ever dreamt of scoring a pair of those foot-molding glove-like flats or low-heels (in multiple colors) without a ship-sinking hit to your credit card statement (around $250 in the sale), this is the moment. Sizes and colors disappear fast, so consider this your Roman call for…shoes.

• There’s also: Nordstrom’s early Black Friday kickoff (Sandro cardigans are up to 30% off as a nice little appetizer); Simone Perele’s 25% off event (you can get a Saga bra and boyshort for right at $100); Co Collection’s 40% off sale, a quiet bonanza for fans of its cloud-soft cashmere; Heaven Mayhem’s Black Friday blowout (everything is up to 80% off); and Tank Air’s first ever sale that launched about an hour ago with ‘talovesu’.

Home sales

• Louis Poulsen is kicking off Black Friday early this year, with 15% off sitewise and up to 20% off select collections. If you’ve been flirting with its sculptural lighting, this might be your moment to commit, especially to the Pantella 160 portable lamp, now right at the $250-range.

• Boll & Branch’s Black Friday sale is live, and the entire site is 25% off, an e-smoke signal for you to upgrade your bed linens to hotel-soft status. Its hemmed cotton sheets, already beloved for that perfectly lived-in, breathable feel, are the real start to grab now, especially with full sets coming in at under $500.
