So, here’s the deal: Paris is much colder than my packed suitcase can accommodate. A curse for fashion week, but a blessing when I needed a little push to invest in my primary outerwear for the season anyway. I found the drop-waist wool coat of my dreams at the Lemaire shop-in-shop at Galeries Lafayette (it’s cheaper on Farfetch than it is direct from Lemaire for online shoppers), and naturally, it’s effectively been my whole outfit for the past couple days, give or take a pant and a shoe change.
Shoppable observations
My stylist friend Ava Von Osol and I were commiserating over Paris’ wetness, and she pointed out a great rain moc that older French women tend to wear. They’re a backless pair from Aigle, a French brand that’s been in business for over 170 years, and they’re only €37.
Fane’s Laurie-Anne Braun tells me she almost exclusively buys vintage (such a common thing that I head from ultra-chic people), but that the one new brand she’s excited about is Rier. They’re a name on everyone’s lips and were a hot showroom to visit during Paris Men’s in June. I also mentioned a couple days ago but will restate that the brand is newly on SSENSE, including a boot just released in collaboration with Salomon.
Speaking of Fane, I’m excited to report that the brand is wholesaling again and will be stocked at 20+ stores worldwide (including SSENSE) by early next year. The best-selling black will remain exclusively available through the brand’s site.
The eyebrow-raising chatter among natural beauty types at the Lesse dinner was how “all of Paris” was talking about/at the Balmain show (of all things) to see the brand’s beauty line debut.
The Broken Arm is the first store I’ve found that’s stocking Alainpaul’s suiting scarf that I included in last season’s Future Shopper picks (it’s retailing for $660, a bit north of my projected $400). Seems to be in store only at this time.
Someone in the comments asked me to share the products I’m using for my new short hair. I’m figuring out in real time (in Paris’ aggressive humidity), but what I’ve found so far are two French pharmacy stylers: René Furterer Sublime Karite Professional Smoothing Milk that I apply to towel-dried hair and René Furterer Style Modeling Paste that I use on dry hair and which provides a surprisingly non-crunchy, non-greasy hold.
