I am appalled that smoking is apparently “in” again and that you complimented Madewell for providing bowls of cigarettes at a launch party.

Laura...I come here for the fashion and your brilliant writing...

but did you just write "smoking is in again"? For the love of god, you are an "influencer", really?

Except you didn’t “just” report on the trend. You write: “Smoking is back, and it’s kind of a refreshing leader move for a historically tweeny brand like Madewell to seize the moment in its own rebrand toward a chicer, more ageless standing.” Like, sure it may be a smart branding move, but how are cigarette bowls/lighters “refreshing” or trailblazing?? What’s worse tho is that you imply that smoking is “chic” and “ageless” (by which I think you mean “timeless”), making the “tweeny” brand feel more grown-up—and what’s more cool and grown-up than smoking?! (It won’t make you ageless, that’s for sure!) idk this just felt so gross even for an influencer

Smoking as a trend is the ultimate wealth status symbol because you have to be insanely rich to afford the amount of plastic surgery/Botox/whatever to erase over the premature aging, especially with the permanent-sunken dark eye circles and wrinkles. And the smell, which gets in your hair, so stock up on those expensive perfumes. One industry’s hand washes the other, so to speak. I’m honestly baffled by Madewell and Chung’s choice here. That is a cool lighter, though I’m very glad I left smoking cigarettes behind in my 20s before I did any permanent damage. It’s the fastest way to age yourself a decade or more. It’s why every 40 year old in movies into the 1990s looked 60! Bananas.

Not sure I qualify as "young"? But hungry regardless, and especially eager to match with an editor for experiential journalism.

This isn't the first time I've heard that smoking is "in" again. According to my Gen Z daughters, this is not the case with their generation - thankfully! All about vaping, which I hope they steer clear of as well.
