Shoppable observations
Thanks to everyone who helped track down that rug from yesterday’s send. It’s by Amca Oval, led by Adrien Caillaudad and Alexis Martial, who was previously Carven’s creative director of accessories. Now, they’re making everything from rugs to lamps to baby tees and handbags that all round back to the brand’s core oval motif.
You know how I said Connor McKnight was likely wearing Connor McKnight at the Colbo party? He wasn’t. I saw him again at his showroom wearing the same fit—a great one, so I had to inquire. He wore a 1970s Champion zip hoodie in faded navy (similar to this logoless one without a zipper or this zipped version with a university seal…Connor’s was more perfectly warped by time) and 1970s Dickies pants.
For his own line, he sources fabrics via Greenfield Clothiers, a Bushwick tailoring shop that’s dressed six American presidents (Martin Greenfield, its founder, died earlier this year and saw a massive outpouring of praise for his life and achievements). Naturally, the idea would be to go in and get something custom, but at least one Grailed seller is collecting old Martin suits and you can even find a few on The RealReal.
Two vintage stores I’ve added to my essential lineup this week are Plaisir Palace, a tip from Gabrielle Katz who is on a texting-photos-of-Chanel basis with Didier the owner, and Iregular, where Gray Broderick sourced the most insane floor-length crochet Courreges dress. For your list next time you’re in town.
Party scene — Dries Van Noten show + afterparty
I expected to see more Dries, and I mean there was a lot, but I somehow anticipated it being more of a uniform for the occasion of DVN’s last show at DVN. (Oddly, there was a lot of Thom Browne.) Steff Yotka wore everything Dries including a gold bag, except her coat which was Chopova Lowena (loyal!). Lauren Sherman’s look was “Dries-inspired” but actually consisted of a vintage Celine shirt, Lemaire shorts and sandals, and a Prada jacket. Noah Johnson, who got stuck in the same Lemaire store line as me earlier this week and struck out there like I had was wearing a vintage Armani shirt. He says he usually wears Evan Kinori (as he had been at the Colbo party). Jian De Leon, though, did have a Kinori Field Shirt on under his more spectacular Dries coat, and were those the Throwing Fits adidas I spied? Jacob Gallagher wore a vintage Roland Garros cap, Stussy sweater, old Diesel denim jacket, CDG linen tee, Issey pants, and Dries shoes he bought at the store this week, which he said was more tooth-and-nail than Lemaire (Dries and Lemaire are everyone’s two top stops in town, throw in a Charvet, Charlotte Chesnais, and Thankx God I’m a VIP and you’ve got your Paris shopping pillars mapped).
