Laura, I don't see the average person wearing these clothes. For one thing, they are a little off the wall but who can afford these clothes? I have a pretty good income but I cannot afford $1600 or more for a coat and $600 plus for a top.
hi cindy, thanks for your comment. it's perfectly fine if these pieces don't resonate with you. not everything is meant to be universal, especially fashion coming from brands that are at the forefront of the industry, moving the conversation forward for the rest of the brands to follow (or not!).
i agree the clothes can be expensive and would never expect anyone to blindly buy everything that's included in this newsletter—everyone should make decisions based on their own financial situation. for those who do buy some things, i find that they, like me, get a lot of pleasure out of fashion and have allocated a budget to investing in these pieces/this hobby.
there are plenty of other brands not highlighted in this send that make nice, affordable clothes—cos, uniqlo, etc. but they are not the subject matter at this time, nor are they the ones that get me excited enough to write a few thousand words. maybe i will dedicate a send to those brands at another time!
I love to use Magasin’s curations as inspiration. Most items are also out of my budget but I love digging into the resale world to see what I can find that’s similar. You’d be surprised at how many designers are reintroducing old silhouettes and smaller brands that are making similar items, with similar quality, at a more affordable price point :)
I'm no fashion maven. In fact I can barely string together the right clothes to wear for most occasions. And I certainly can't afford to shop at the Row. Yet. What I get from this newsletter are ideas for color, style, patterns. I choose a piece and try and find my own version of the style, and then do this each time until I have an outfit put together. I can't tell you how many compliments I get from doing this... coming from a person who wore a tuxedo uniform most of her adult life. I don't scrimp on shoes, I bite down hard and reach for my wallet... same with accessories. They go a long way, so don't fret, have fun with the wonderful work Laura's newsletter provides... and enjoy!
poor woman's birkin > checks price > $4k > closes tab and goes to make some comfort tea hahaha. I love everything here!!! already looking forward to spring, have my eye on that white and blue skirt; table cloth chic, i'm coming for you.
Thank you so much Laura! I really never expected you to answer me. I appreciate it though. I have shopped Real Real and even sold some items on there also.
thats amazing! the realreal is such a good avenue for trying out more ambitious styles without putting a ton of money on the line. and like mehr said, a lot of the new silhouettes are just old ones coming back around. part of the fun is in digging up the originals :)

Also, re the white turtle neck rec, going to point you and any readers here to Sylvie Mus's styling tips for this piece of garment - she is impossibly chic - https://open.substack.com/pub/sylviemus/p/htw-the-white-turtleneck?r=8og2u&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
Okay, I love how you organized and put thought into this. What you saw, what and why you liked and how to get it now. So wonderful. Thank you.
