Phew! I was wondering if there was something wrong with me?! I really like Phoebe. I really respect that she is independent and a maverick with a unique point of you. I also love that she is a strong woman designer. And I had talked myself into being able to talk myself into overpaying for something. But then, when I went to the website, I didn’t really want anything. I mean not bad enough to overspend. And I agree with Christina, I’m not going to get pushed around as a customer. Not going to be stressed out to spend thousands of dollars on a “Drop”. Hope it gets better. I feel like this collection is a bit of emperor has no clothes. And as for Cathy… Yeah, she’s astute, but I think she’s starry eyed from having been one of the select few anointed to come see the clothes in person. I mean, how do you write that the Emperor has no clothes when you got a private visit with emperor and you’re one of a handful?

My first impression of the Phoebe designs/styling is that it looks like The Frankie Shop but 10x more expensive. Like others have mentioned, I too feel disconnected from the coverage, especially Cathy Horyn's, who I normally find very astute.

Yes yes yes. It was stale for what this drop was supposed to represent. It must be hard to have a movement that one led, leave the space, then come back to so many people doing what you started and but you’re still competing with the same tools you had 10 years ago

Thank you for saying this. I did the same dance with the Club Loafer with Fringe, and then the website had issues so I couldn't buy them...and I haven't thought about them since. It's not that it's not all gorgeous; I especially love the trench coats--they are exactly what I've been unable to find, although for those prices, I would hope so. But I feel disconnected from the coverage and I don't like feeling rushed when I shop at these price points.

Totally agree with your take on the Phoebe drop.

I have some theories as to why the collection is priced the way it is, and can appreciate the thoughts behind it (if I'm correct). It was obvious the demand was going to be overwhelming, and the high prices do allow an audience beyond the first arrivers to get a piece from the collection if they're enough of a true die-hard fan (I checked the collection after your newsletter went out and it looks like quite a few things were restocked and possible to buy).

Also, I think many of the first arrivers would have just bought up pieces to resell for the same insane prices anyway, so this way at least the brand isn't letting yucky resellers capitalize on the drops.
