096: Y/Project at SSENSE, Alaïa on The RealReal, and Birkenstocks from Bergdorf
A Craig Green jacket sets today's mood.
Named for the large, vertical newspaper format, think of this weekly supplement as a shopping cheat sheet cribbed from far-reaching corners of the internet.
An item to set today’s mood: Craig Green Quilted Worker Jacket.
I’ve been wanting to write about this Craig Green jacket for the better part of a year, so much so that my meditation-to-manifestation practice ostensibly led me to buy it for Nir. I fixated on it upon seeing two street style documenters (one a photographer, another a vlogger) wearing it during the September shows in New York and Stockholm. They may have been capturing my likeness, but it was clear that each of them were the more cleverly dressed.
Now, as far as the jacket. It’s pocket-y, but I suspect rather than that being a practical necessity, it’s the overall look of the outerwear, the look of being helpful, that’s tempted wearers. While masc fashion generally rides the usefulness wave to create plausible deniability—god forbid men outside the “fits” community actually like clothes for their own sake—this jacket accomplishes what most workwear/gorpcore usually misses by being extraordinarily elegant. (The Craig Green-initiated also know that the British designer, protegée to Walter van Beirendonck and Henrik Vibskov—renowned queerers of the menswear designation—runs gender-defying threads through all of his collections.)
Here it is on SSENSE in limited sizing, Farfetch, eBay, and (a slight variation) on The RealReal.
Best of…
SSENSE
I was lucky enough to score one of these Y/Project invisible-strap tanks that put me in a coma on the runway in my size before stock got wiped out—a few sizes in a few colors remain, and make sure to check the men’s section for extra units as they’re graded identically; a super solid transitional trench that’s not wildly overpriced, this one from Dunst is just $370; I love a long-sleeve polo lately, and this sheer Toteme number is on sale for $125; Comme des Garçon’s new take on the bamboo bag is only $280; and a last pair of The Row heeled ballerinas (in my size) are 40% off on sale.
re-sale
Not too long ago, I ran into the ceramicist Simone Bodmer-Turner at a coffee shop in my neighborhood, where she was wearing the most stunning brooch—one from her collaboration with the jeweler Agmes—pinned to the lapel of her navy trench, and wow, what a sight! It inspired me to dig back into the archives for vintage brooches, where I found this fun Givenchy logo one that looks like a manhole cover in the spirit of “‘80s decadence, but it’s not that serious”; it doesn’t look like much here, but with all the ties from the FW23 shows, I’m digging around for my preferred style: knit, square-tipped ones like this elegant silk Hermes that also comes in faded navy; this Alaïa dress is seriously underpriced at The RealReal at only $395; a certain upcoming themed birthday party has put many great corsets—like this 2006 wool boned Prada—on my radar; and Loewe’s Paseo bags from the FW23 runway are a good reason to shop for the more affordable vintage prototype: its Aire bags.
and everywhere else.
I’m having a minor jewelry identity crisis, in that I’m not sure I have one, so I’ve been opening myself up to all sorts of new styles that I never would’ve considered me, like this Mara Peralta choker, an exercise worth doing regularly; new future sold-out Birkenstock just dropped: these Men’s Los Feliz Suede Slides; so sue me for this Skims slip link, but I think we can appreciate a little bumhole keyhole moment; this Lemaire linen-wool button-down has been following me around daring me to buy it, and it’s proven to be smart that I waited since it’s down to 60% off now; and a not-The-Row-but-maybe-better (and a third the price) bag from Janessa Leone, who I didn’t realize made anything other than hats but turns out to make some very finely finished American-made leather goods.

Absolutely love the choker, I thought about knits and chokers for this season too! 🤍
