Magasin’s pop-up Fashion Week newsletter-within-a-newsletter, where we go on the ground to suss out hot shopping gossip from scenes of interest: New York Fashion Week, Days 6 + 7.
Weather report
80ºF / 26º C — have you ever missed a show? Or missed a flight? The former is a bit like the latter—like guilt-riddled teenage inadequacy—with the added element of disappointing others. Anyway, I missed two in a day due to a bitter cocktail of optimism and traffic.
Itinerary

Sept 13
10a Tibi show
11a Altuzarra show — my first Altu show! Feels important to reflect on how, compared to the prices of their clothing, the bags—often under $1,000—are extremely reasonably priced.
11:30a Herbert Levine press preview — finally got to meet Trevor Houston, the Khaite / The Row / Marc Jacobs shoe designer reviving this historic New York brand. Apparently, he got scouted for the gig from this Coveteur article featuring his expansive collection of archival styles from designer Beth Levine (yes, the brand was under her husband’s name for societal reasons). Some vintage search queries I gathered: Andrew Geller, a mid-century footwear brand Beth also designed for—not her work, but I’m interested in these bags—and similarly, DeLISO.
3:30p Tory Burch & & Substack cocktail at Raf’s — already one miss in, I couldn’t risk not making it to Eckhaus
4p Eckhaus Latta show — and thank god I made it. What a good ass collection; a perfectly timed segue into sexier evening wear for men and women (double-waisted suit pants, dramatic knit gowns), plus an exceptional in-between-feeling category that honored the holey knits and denim roots of the brand, but with a sophisticated flourish. Je ne sais quois incarnate. I’m still high on Eckhaus’ supply, and not even because of the live doobie they sent down the runway.
7p Khaite show — I literally watched the live show from my phone in the Uber, which I had turn around five minutes from the venue to make the 1.5 hour return to Brooklyn after missing doors. What a killer collection. My tragedy of the week.
Sept 14
1p COS show — can always count on COS for the see now-buy now satisfaction of NYFW; you can already shop the runway collection online. Fave pieces were this basketweave wool sweater, hooded silk top, and a pony hair coat that seems to be coming in the next drop.
2p GWYN preview — was pained to miss this (I had family matters to attend to…i.e. my husband’s runway debut), but got the scoop from below. Separately, Allegra Lorenzotti, who I sat with at Colbo, described it as “goop’s Khaite.” Nice.
3p Colbo presentation — my husband’s runway debut lol. Also spotted on the catwalk:

Shopping gossip

Remember “newsletter pants”? Magasin coined the term back in 2023 to describe High Sport’s Kick Flares, which had gone pre-viral (just before going truly viral) among writers on this platform. Well, it looks like the sequel just dropped.
and I crossed paths at the Colbo show, both wearing Horse Sport’s Short Shorts. She mentioned she’d just run into at the farmer’s market this weekend, who was also wearing the shorts. “Substack shorts,” Emilia said, knowingly. To drive the point, Substackers (my star pilates instructor), , and also sport the sport short shorts. It truly is New York Baby Week, especially at the Eckhaus show, where not one but TWO infants were wearing the hottest thing a baby could wear: Emily Dawn Long’s mini Wanda hat. One of those babies was
’s and the other, an anonymous rival in the front room. Let the record show I also bought one for my nephew whose beautiful head outgrew it in his race to be as big as a baby rhino by age 2.The men’s sandals at Eckhaus Latta by Sabah almost stole the show. Almost. Amazing how well they went with suiting and jeans both.
Learned about the San Francisco-based menswear retail project Studio Ferris from founder Joanna, who tells me the brand her “man” is most aligned with is SK Manor Hill; utilitarian supply with feminine details like crochet trim and embroidery.
The matchbooks from the Calvin Klein after party (one of many I declined this week in favor of work and sleep) tell me the new Collection line is going to be sold on MyTheresa. Better believe I’m hitting that New Arrivals refresh button!
My clever friend
(a mononym), who almost exclusively wears The Row and some Extreme Cashmere, swapped out her runway Colbo look for an Entire Studios viscose knit shorts set: “It’s great quality!”Trevor Houston (of Herbert Levine) is on his way to Milan to design the shoes for Dario Vitale’s Versace. So you know it’s going to be good.
Mystery solved — GWYN by goop, as told by
From what I was told, Gywn is now the new clothing line that Gwyneth created to be separate from the goop umbrella. G.Label [Laura note: when you navigate to G.Label’s website, you’re now met with a “GWYN, formerly G. Label, a new chapter in fashion history” notice] was obviously what it was before but it was confusing for people since it wasn’t really its own thing. Didn’t have its own Instagram, etc. So, Gwyn is now its own thing and is supposed to be representative of who Gwenyth is now. I think they also kinda wanted it to be unclear and confusing as to what Gywn was so that people would show up and learn about it.

The actual space was obviously beautiful and it was “Gwenified” where there was a spread of beautiful healthy whole foods and then around the space were things somewhat personal to Gwenyth. Like a movie playing on an old tv that I’m assuming has some connection to her? Some more personal photos of her and her kids in frames on tables.
But as for the clothes themselves, they seemed like really nice quality pieces. Simple silhouettes and what felt like really nice fabrics. It’s not anything new or groundbreaking necessarily, but I think dressing right now is quite simple overall and I like that. There were a lot of pieces I’d love to wear!
