I spent the morning taking one last soak before checkout at Pocketbook Hudson’s bathhouse. Then, I bought a pair of Yale Burge Parsons chairs for a fair deal at the otherwise overpriced-but-fun Antique Warehouse of Hudson. They could use a light cleaning or, at worst, re-upholstery (if you know someone good and affordable, please please please hit your reply button).
I was happy to see a few friendly names in Pocketbook’s own multi-faceted retail program: Colbo and Eckhaus Latta at the ground-level Market, my Greenpoint-days roommate Helena Eisenhart in the Japanese-y second-floor Kasuri, Presley Oldham and TIWA at the third-floor gallery-style Show Room. Even Marie Veronique, Monastery, and Verdoie at the bathhouse reception. The full brand list is effortfully stacked and clearly brought together with a lot of intention—this isn’t some passive gift shop that throws Sophie Lou Jacobsen and Group Partner boob pots on a shelf and calls it.

After two days in Hudson (fly fishing! eating at Casa Susanna, go go go!), I just arrived at Bovina Fermentory for part deux of my Upstate Fall Season Opener. The next stretch of consumption will be centered on the more esoteric sciences of taste and scent—the pleasant stench of manure from our journey out of boutique upstate and into cow upstate turns the page nicely. A fragrance workshop and overall olfactory experience from Ffern, a candle company that does everything its own way, including its limited seasonal release model. And sampling our way through the ferments cellar of Delaware County’s nerdiest farm project. Notes of beef stock and red wine in the air. Wood furnace burning in our private cottage kitchen. As always, though, if there’s shopping up here I should investigate, you’ll let me know.

When the clock struck midnight on November 1, we heard from Mariah Carey. This year, her Christmas commercial complex comes in the form of a very sparkly holiday collaboration with Gucci. Named Butterfly after her 1997 album, the 40+ piece collection is made for year-round divas. There’re lots of crystals—on translucent pink wraparound shades, sparkly slide sandals, drippy earrings and more—and an iridescent logomania pattern which the aptly-named new Starlet bag was born to sport. The house’s signature Flora print also makes an appearance on silk twill tops and scarves, featuring way more butterflies than usual. Tons of things are screaming collectors item—you’ll see them again on Neverworns Live! Shopping in the year 2047.
Leonard Bernstein, you would’ve loved Róhe’s Cruise ‘27 (we have early access here!). See: silk mockneck tops with built-in cummerbunds, cropped blazers that are definitely composer-inspired, and an A-line dress with one strap purposely twisted and askew—perfect for signalling that you’re not as straight-laced as the dress code may call for. A tulip motif is happening, accessory-wise—there’s a seemingly pointless but beautiful leather belt-slash-holster, and a single silver earring inspired by a 20th-century Dutch pin. All in all, it's a theatrical RTW collection that doesn’t exercise too much restraint.
Looking at Daniella Kallmeyer’s new Net-A-Porter collection, the first thing that jumps out are emperors past. Those drapey tops are pretty similar to the cloaks carved into the bottom of Roman busts, right? And don’t those billowy champagne coats recall Byzantine capes? Materiality is huge for the brand, as always—and for this capsule, velvet is both the best part of this currently sold-out blouse, as well as the backdrop for frayed bows on the Tilda jacket (perfect for a holiday party, or antique doll cosplay). Big fan of the metallic floral jacquard, too.
Being a Scandi brand, Toteme knows about staying warm with panache. With the first bits of its Pre-Spring ‘27—freshly available only to those who log in / make a free account—I’m actually feeling okay about winter…as long as it comes with a shearling-collared coat like this one, or maybe even a fluffy ecru bomber. For footwear, the brand is betting on patent leather with its new iteration of the Bar boots and these Tuxedo loafers. Speaking of, this Midsommar riff on the tuxedo shirt immediately caught my eye—definitely into reinventing the wheel, bib-wise!
One look at Proenza Schouler’s Pre-Spring 2027 collection and we have to ask: Is the peplum pendulum swinging back? The jackets—Dasha definitely, and Dara to an extent—are both structured with a flared waist, and the Margot top is almost rubbing it in our faces. The collection also experiments with leather (the Trap over-the-knee boots have me mesmerized), pleating on the Rina and Olympia dresses, and tons of PS1 variations.
Métier is known for its attention to detail—I close my eyes and picture its Bespoke atelier operating similarly to a room of artists assembling model ships inside glass bottles. Each made-to-order item is one-of-a-kind, and crafted from woven lambskin leather. Now available to be bespoke-ified is the British company’s Nomad All Day bag—a.k.a the perfect weekender duffel.
Denial is a river in Egypt—it’s time to get out your sweaters, or buy some new ones. Uniqlo and F.Risso’s new knitwear capsule collection takes Italian prep and runs with it. From knit polos to striped beanies, everything is under $50. J. Crew just released another Rollneck—its OG wool version, that is. And quality-wise, Filson’s handmade sweaters are pretty tough to beat. This waffle merino has a great cost-per-wear.
The campaign for Tigra Tigra’s tropical-themed Collection 19 may look like it was shot on a trail cam… but the clothes themselves are all unadulterated occasionwear. Styling this gorgeous Mashroo silk dress with teal tights is genius—and come spring, the hottest girl at the party will be wearing this hand-beaded belt over TT’s new Aqua skirt-shirt set. There’s also a raw-silk-and-sequined laptop case dripping with beads, if you’re into that sort of thing (the 21st century minaudière, maybe?).
Did Cecilie Bahnsen hear us when we published our backpack screed last week? For its fourth collaboration with the North Face, the Copenhagen-based brand launched a midnight blue drawstring satchel, alongside a fanny pack adorned with tassels, hiking boots laced with floral hardware, and more girly gorp pieces. Betting that these water-repellant onyx mules will sell out soon, too.
There’s also: The option to flex Hermès for the weekend with Rent the Runway’s new luxury bag offering; Comme Si’s getting more spiffy with the launch of its new Tuxedo shirt; Eckhaus Latta offers its Bucket bag in a dusty suede; in terms of grown-up Twinkle Toes, there are these sparkly high vamp ballets from Jamie Haller, or Gimaguas’s sequined Bailarinas; and Bettter finishes strong (it’s bowing out of apparel and becoming a tech platform) with its drop 18.
Home releases
Edie Parker’s new bejeweled Heirloom tabletop collection, or Fabergé for the modern smoker, is here. Clever design is the throughline between these smoking objects, from the ovoid Cig holder to this table lighter with a built-in incense tray. There’s also the new Solitaire line for the Marlboro-wielding girl-on-the-go: the sleek lipstick lighters and cig cases come in three different metal colorways.
Gardenheir’s November Collection appeals to everyone, but those who swear they’d thrive on a French farmstead immediately come to mind (their LARP can commence with this field coat). For those who actually do care about dirt and plants, the Niwaki secateurs are a gardener’s holy grail. And no matter their urban-or-rural affiliation, I personally know a lot of guys who would be into this set of wooden bird calls.
Nordic Knots just launched its Avenue Collection of wool-and-nylon carpets, designed specifically for high-traffic areas (or shoes-on households). The seven colorways prove that performance fabrics can still be pretty—and the wall-to-wall version is also over $1,000 less than its 100% wool counterpart.
There’s also: Claude Home launches a very Axel Vervoordt-informed series of furniture and lights; Boll & Branch x Inslee Fariss’s collab offers the option to wake up beside cute holiday embroidery; the standout from LES’s new Terra collection are the Giacometti-like candle holders; and Apartamento will publish the first English translation of Ettore Sottsass’s posthumous memoir, Written at Night.

Savannah’s, a store in Stockholm with excellent curation, is offering up to 70% off select items through its Season Sale—comb closely for some stellar discounts, like $2,000 off this Alaïa midi skirt. I’m eyeing these oxblood leather trousers from Chloé (half off) and thinking, this sale couldn’t come at a better time (right before party season). Other highlights: a few cashmere things from The Row, these sexy Amina Muaddi slingbacks, and this mini Paddington.
Lulu & Georgia is also taking up to 70% off on 300+ items—the site is a real design cornucopia, so now’s a good chance to get your maybe boring-but-necessary furniture for a good price (like this wooden mirror for $300 off). L&G also frequently collaborates with big designers like Sarah Sherman Samuel, who designed this wavy daybed and this hand-loomed rug, both of which are on sale. If I had a fireplace, I’d get this tattooed metal screen.
There’s also: A USM Haller Holiday sale at Renew, where you can take 20% off everyone’s favorite modular system with code USM20 at check out; and up to 60% off the wild silhouettes of Camperlab through its Collecta sale.

Oscar Deco for reupholstery!! <3
Casa Susanna is the BEST. Camptown (its hotel) is also phenomenal (as is Gracie's Diner down the street and neighboring Catskill)!
It's that restaurant that just piles up on awards and yet is still easy to get a table.
For now. :-/
