Magasin’s pop-up newsletter-within-a-newsletter, where we go on the ground to suss out hot shopping gossip from scenes of interest: New York Fashion Week, Day 3.
Itinerary

10a J.Hannah preview at Casino — antique jewelry given the luxury treatment. Customizable wax seals and a ring designed to hold strands of woven hair are inspired by antique silhouettes and made of majority recycled metals and gems. - MK
12p Lafayette 148 presentation — Americana-themed like so many other collections this season (it was especially in the air yesterday on the 25th anniversary of 9/11); in this case, inspired by CD Emily Smith’s grandmother’s quilts - LR
12:30p Jamie Haller presentation — Jamie as you know her, and as you don’t (yet)! A pair of bedazzled jeans threw my sense of familiarity with the brand’s game off balance, and yet I don’t pretend to anticipate everything it releases: It’s an everyday, wearable line with plot twists. - LR
1p Made Some Sportswear preview — the brand behind the boardshorts of the summer turned Tom’s Juice into a pop-up for their latest drop. The purple nylon surf pants are at the top of my fall shopping wishlist. - AV
8p Eckhaus Latta show — I was thinking about / looking at the boys, reflecting on how enviable it must be for a big brand with enormous commercial pressure to distill the Venice Beach bum or the Santa Monica skater kid into a likable, desirable, sellable mood. Eckhaus did it without a trace of effort, and rightly ID’ed it as the thing to want to be right now. Their girls are all sexually awakened booksmart big sisters; intimidating and hot. - LR
9:30p J.Crew x Eckhaus Latta party — a house party for the ages at The Players club on Gramercy Park. Three floors of fratty fun, complete with a co-branded pool table, kegs, beer pong, cigar and caviar bars, an aura photographer, and an artist drawing Very Bad Portraits. It also must be said: hot people everywhere. - AV
LR: Laura Reilly, AV: Alyssa Vingan, MK: Maya Kotomori

You should have seen my face when the first model turned the corner into my section at Eckhaus Latta and I 10x zoomed onto her Maryam Nassir Zadeh Olympia wedges—the shoe that inspired me to start this newsletter 6 years ago, and whose in-group signaling powers in the time before Dimes Square were at their absolute peak. The brands are close friends: Eckhaus was incubated in Maryam’s showroom, which ran concurrent to her store, so it should feel unsurprising. It’s just that, after the height of MNZ made way to the height of The Row, which made way to the height of Phoebe or Celine or Dries, it’s a concentrated kind of nostalgia to see them back in the heart of downtown—now sold on Net-A-Porter. It’s the second coming.
To the ever-running conversation about status hand soaps, I submit that the private bathroom at Toteme stocks Perfumer H’s Rain Wood wash and lotion.
Khaite may have reimagined the Marlboro with its branded cig boxes, but J.Crew can claim the Cuban cigar. Add this to the “smoking is so back” in fashion discourse. Cigars are gross but every boy I know will smoke one if given the chance anyway.

Toteme soap, J.Crew cigars A whole new Soho has emerged this week with store openings from Róhe, Rúadh, Magda Butrym, Biologique Recherche, Victoria Beckham coming soon, Nature of Things, others I’m sure I’m forgetting…before, the only stores for us were Bomi and Aflalo and the Prada store whose architecture makes it actually worth visiting (not like others internationally, which people will insist you have to go to—you don’t, you have Prada at home). But design is evidently paramount to these new brands, eager to prove themselves culturally with it to their customers. Róhe’s space is particularly wow, with my all-time dream Jeanneret desk, Ingo Maurer paper lamps, a Met-caliber 15th C Flemish painting…
An excellent date idea from Brad Ogbonna is to hit up an Upstate or Connecticut estate sale through estatesales.net. You may end up at an unlisted Midcentury design house with a bathtub that has feet (zoom in!) and buy original art from a late artist couple for next to no money.
