Happy first day of NYFW, or for the West Coasters, being a day closer to Contrapposto singularity (the aesthetic headquarters launched fragrance, bet you didn’t see that coming!!).
I’m jetting to Rachel Comey in a few hours, and then heading into a night of cocktails and parties and shows you’d have been lucky not to plan something for your brand on—one BFA photographer I heard from said they had 70 (!) events on their coverage calendar tonight alone. I’m surfing the wave to finally go to Marcel and then promptly gunning it back downtown for Coach’s 85th anniversary show.

What’s new
WeHo-elite aesthetic dermatology practice Contrapposto launched its debut fine fragrance line this morning, and it’s a trio of scents with sculptural bottles that mimic the California clinic’s windows (they’ll look fantastic as objects on display). Co-founder Nick Axelrod-Welk dubs the roasted-seashell accord and Somali frankincense-scented Lubanite “the most Magasin” for its ability to “become a part of your outfit or personality.” I (Laura) have been secretly wear-testing the scent alongside Melting Flowers and Musc Pétille for the last month, each crafted by a different legendary parfumeur and have had to, on more than one occasion, break embargo to gush to my complimenter about the cleverness of the line.
We’re getting the first bits of Phoebe Philo’s Collection E, in all of its chocolate-y glory (see: the Paper tote, bronze parachute leather shirt, and slouchy high boot, each in a different shade of brown). There are also some wacky accessories like a $1,250 silver sunglasses chain, and a leather anorak (?) made of a nappa fabrication so thin it resembles tech fabric (it’s fabulous).
FW26 will be a remarkable season for minimalists who want their clothes to resemble shapes in a geometry book. We’re seeing the first pieces from Jil Sander AW26 hit e-commerce, like the trapezoidal-shouldered Mikado top and Kante flap bag, as well as some optical illusion-y pieces from (mainline) Lemaire FW26 like the trompe l’oeil merino blend scarf and plinth-like crease sleeve boots. There are also some new FW26 pieces available only to Toteme’s email subscribers, like the silky shearling coat in ginger and tent-like sculptural leather skirt. Even the pre-collection from Fillippa K’s AW26 (who ran so Toteme could…also run, in an adjacent lane) has a more tucked-in type of geometry, like these loose-fit and fully pleated trousers, or a the aptly named hourglass vest.
In a spectacular stab at a comeback, AllSaints launches its first unisex collection under the keen eye of Creative Director Aaron Esh, and the brand finds a boot and rally in the latest pieces. There’s also just the right amount of that classic Esh quirkiness, which has situated him as one of London’s virtuosos, in asymmetrical basics like the Cruz cardigan and Martel merino wool sweater.
There’s also: the first-ever Kallmeyer collab (and one with Nike, at that), a take on the tennis centre shoe; beloved bookstore 0fr. Paris’s collab with Zara with some truly bad graphics that try and subsequently fail to reheat EDL’s nachos; the release of the Jamie Haller traditional trench and the brand’s first foray into ribbed cotton basics (elbow-sleeve tee supremacy!); a pointy-toed and semi-witchy AW26 drop from Neous; edition 37 from extreme cashmere featuring a jacquard-knit cashmere bomber that refuses to remove its foot from Maya’s neck; the anticipated release of Gap’s five-bag GapBag collection designed by Reed Krakoff, including a kangaroo-pocketed hoodie tote; and Emmanuelle Perrin’s debut bag for Perrin Paris, Le Pilote—whose ergonomic handle pairs well with its calfskin construction.
Men’s releases
It’s the first delivery of Carter Young FW26, and it resembles the wardrobe of your alt undergrad crush—cool leather jacket and flannel shirt included—if he knew what a bias cut was. By that, we mean there are garment dyed football tees (men deserve some elevated basics as a treat!), along with some selvedge denim and a true mid-rise cotton twill chino.
Is it just us, or has Studio Nicholson been on a massive roll recently? The brand has always been fab, but certain elements—like this mineral green suit and this elevated sportswear jacket called the Wickett—take it there, especially when styled with those little Bram scarf-snoods.
There’s also: Brand spotted—Maru Mori’s 100% mercerised cotton boxers; the technical-meets-fashion Virginia Watermoc by Pharrell Williams for adidas Originals, catering to all your free-solo needs; and a curated-for-him collection of Agmes’s best unisex jewelry.
Home releases
What can we say, Northern European wood furnishings trend as blond as their people: Audo Copenhagen’s newest collection for fall demonstrates as much. There are pieces named after arctic birds, like the penguin wooden lounge chair and puffin dining table, as well as some more decorative fare, like the admiral portable lamp and Mauro leather seat cushion.
There’s also: the UFO-like Louis Poulsen Reframe pendant lamp, designed by famed interiors firm Yabu Pushelberg; a collection of museum-worthy design at 1stDibs from original Niemeyer chaises to a $1.78 million dollar fossilized crocodile specimen; and the arrival of Nordic Knots’s The Grand collection inspired by the graphic lines found on tennis courts.
