All of the new fall collections that dropped over the weekend reached me while I was in Mexico’s Nayarit Peninsula, so my prevailing thought to almost all of them was, “if you say so.”
Now I’m on a flight back home battling an inbox full of NYFW scheduling conflicts so I’m finally willing to concede that there may be a reality in which people do wear various heavy cloths on their bodies.
Premier among them are Colleen Allen’s first fall pieces, which editors have been waiting for since her pre-order event last fashion week. Her sparse, strong designs always set the tone for the following run of New York events: who’ll be wearing what to which occasion, exactly what a collection should mean for a season. Her particular genre of sexy—cobwebby lace, high slits—mingles with heavy, effortful outerwear in plush velvet. Contemporary and glamorously of-another-era all at once.

What’s new
The first drop from Colleen Allen’s FW26 collection is live now, and its the stuff of autumnal romance. Why not go a little goth this fall, with gorgeous options like a draped ruffle blouse in black lace or a velvety tailored gown complete with a bustle at the back? If that feels like too much of a commitment, the new ribbon-strapped bustle bag achieves the same vibe, sub-$1k.
Tom Ford FW26 just hit Net-A-Porter, and it’s hitting us harder than it did on the runway. Haider Ackermann understands sexy: the lace-trimmed stretch-tulle mini dress is styled in funky layers with a striped silk shirt, mohair-blend sweater, and croc leather pumps (with gloves, too). Even shoes like the croc-effect leather stiletto boots are merchandised with the matching skirt, available for pre-order.
Fall shoes are getting a bit of the freak treatment, even the minimal ones. See the Colleen pump from this season’s Khaite, a pointy-vamped, curved block pump, as well as the Tory Burch lock loafer, a distinctly TB take on the smoking slipper; the cheetah spots colorway borders on perverse (complimentary).
We’ve got the B Sides first drop for FW26, and it’s every bit as elevated—as in the reworked madras vest, each constructed with vintage denim, and the Japanese denim and cotton shift—as it is strategic, seen in the nuanced shades of the overdyed painter pants and snap cardigans.
RE/DONE and Hanes have partnered for 10 years, but the duo is introducing some new, extra-considered fabrics for this fall season. There’s the Sadie henley in organic cotton and knot-detailed rib tank, as well as the heritage boatneck longsleeve tee, made with recycled cotton jersey.
For real, mind the Gap. Zac Posen has cooked up some great khaki for GapStudio, the most notable perhaps being this excellently tailored herringbone peacoat.
There’s also: a limited-edition Gohar World x Asics sneakerina shoe; Phillip Lim’s launch of shirting project PlayLoveWin; La Piscine, a woolen, slow fashion collection just in at No. 6; and new French blue workwear available for pre-order at Shaina Mote.
Men’s releases
Heritage fabric brand Thomas Mason teams up with NYC’s own Alex Mill for this capsule of striped shirts. Combining the Mill shirt silhouette with Thomas Mason Italian cotton, these pieces come in five striped colorways for some candy striper prep and classic shirting swagger.
Jacques introduces the double-face cashmere bomber, a sweet little Italian cashmere number positioned for rotation between (or with, weather permitting) your hoodies. It’s got a soft drape, oversized pockets, and a two-way zipper for several styling opportunities.
Home releases
The Zara Home x Mary Lennox collection is all about indoor plants, decorative or otherwise. The selection includes a variety of vases, from tiered stoneware to small faceted brass. There are also some housekeeping items, like matching pruning shears and obelisk-like metal watering cans.
There’s also: Some new classics-based pieces from Audo Copenhagen for fall; and Tekla’s first bedspread, a buffalo plaid topper for your freshest cotton duvets.
What’s on sale
There’s an extra 40% off at Bergdorf Goodman, on top of a lineup of pieces up to 75% off. Styles to keep an eye out for: a lot of Brunello Cucinelli (this appliqued cotton blend shirt gets down to $791 from $3,300), some great select Jil Sander (this double-breasted blazer is sub-$1k), and some of our favorite Dries from last season.
At the St. Agni exclusive end-of-season sale, not everything is actually last season. There’s 20% off an edit of curated back-in-stock items like the pleat loop pants priced at $600, as well as pieces from collections past, like the teddy coat which gets down to $672 from $1,200 after the additional discount.
The Mansur Gavriel Labor Day sale starts now,. This is the kind of sale best suited for color-blockers and coordinators. Some potential pairings: the Gaia shoulder bag and Mari sandal, or the limited-edition Pascucci bag and matching dream ballerina flat, each set totaling sub-$550.
There’s an MKDT studio sale reaching some strong discounts, archive-style. Some pieces are 50% off, like the Pinola-Atelier pants in baby’s breath, and outerwear like the Julia jacket. Most stunning is the speckled wool suit in brown melange, also 50% off (it’s like getting the pants and jacket for the original retail price of just one).
There’s also: The Staud endless summer sale (the beach-printed pieces hurt the most, RIP summer); 25% off sitewide at Aureum, including the new lizard collection; the B Sides end-of-summer sale, undoubtedly a wonderful opportunity for striped shirting like the bestselling Nolan; and 21 days of beauty deals from Ulta, featuring rotating 50% off discounts on a weekly basis.
Men’s sales
Two shoe sale moments, for the rough and tumble man in your life. Take 25% off sitewide at Keen (Targhees included), and a very men’s-centric sale at Ancient Greek Sandals, with 50% off end-of-summer styles like the leather Thiseas and Andreas sandals.
Home sales
Now this is an extra good one: There’s 25% off everything at Design Within Reach, with very few items left out (which unfortunately includes my [Maya’s] dream lamp, the Maap W2 designed by Erwan Bouroullec, which is 10% off). This is an opportunity to snag some fresh-out-the-packaging designer pieces that rarely see a discount, like some Cassina nested side tables or a Hay sofa.
