503: The loafer that launched us into fall

I know this is (mostly) a fashion shopping newsletter, but summer is not a time for caring about clothes. I can tell it’s August, canonically the end of the season for pessimists (I otherwise love summer), because checking the new-in pages of retailers for reportable arrivals—these quilted Dries scarves, snake sneakers, this Liberowe fringe jacket, The Row Dahlia bag I might sincerely have to also buy in black now that it’s back!—is filling me with urgency and passion. It is fall out there!!! And because I have the shopping memory of a goldfish, it feels absolutely brand new like no fall has ever felt before.
The most life-changing of all of these positive transformations to the material universe is so because it has left the screen and come into my life: The Row’s Caden leather loafers.
As blanket-soft as I’ve come to demand from leather shoes (the pliability found in Martinianos), with the shininess that bounces light off and draws the eye down to the tips of one’s toes, completing the visual length of an outfit (why I often wear white shoes). And then those British banker tassels. Well!
These mark the beginning of my personal FW26. The rest of the collection is undoubtedly coming soon.

What’s new
Liffner just opened up pre-access to their AW26 collection. There are some seasonal iterations of classics like the pushlock pouch done up in chartreuse crushed velvet, as well as a new belted shoulder bag in burgundy croc. Most exciting, perhaps, is the small charm bucket bag, also in croc-embossed leather and sub-$1k.
In the 1920s, hems shortened, and in the 2020s, toe boxes lengthened—at least in the case of Jamie Haller’s new slippers. Meet the high vamp ballet flat, an extra long-vamped Italian lambskin shoe with a soft leather sole. It seems as though we’re seeing a Repetto to Phoebe to JH pipeline as far as high-throat ballet flats go…also, the black jazz slippers are back in stock.
Bode teamed up with the Yale School of Music for an exclusive capsule, and it’s a spirited mix of NYC vintage sensibility and CT prep. There are tees, polos, and oxford shirts each with a graphic from a ’70s Yale School of Music concert program sourced from the Norfolk Historical Society. There’s even a tote made to look like a letter, stamps and all.
Alfie FW26 just dropped, and the collection is as textural as ever. There are smooth silk pieces like the Nori midi dress and Valletta mini skirt, as well as loosely woven knits like the high turtleneck Najwa top and dress (the sleeveless turtleneck looks like it’s going to be the silhouette for fall).
There’s also: New arrivals at Net-A-Porter, such as every esoteric art girl’s de facto handbag Fane (the Bra solves for the everyday bag); Alpine heritage brand Rier also joins the ranks at NAP with a bold array of wool-fleece blends; and some new-in Herbert Levine shoes in the finest suedes, satins, and shearlings.

We love when Bergdorf does these. There’s a private sale on now with shoes up to 50% off, and like last time, there’s a whole lot of Prada. It’s a great time to spring for a transitional weather pump like the satin metallic leather cap toes or these modellerie spiked leather heels. There are also a couple good pairs of Bottega boots, like these leather riding boots.
Jennifer Fisher’s end-of-season sale proves that the best way to bid summer a bittersweet farewell is with something sparkly. Pieces like the Tribeca bracelet are 40% off, while the the Soho chain is 60% off—almost as if there’s a local downtown NYC discount. Jewelry with non-city names are also on sale, like the 2” Maeve hoops at 40% off.
Up to 80% off at goop means an excellent curation across clothing and skincare, and this sale is no different. Select róhe and The Elder Statesman pieces find themselves among the fray, like this pleated high-rise poplin skirt for 40% off and mockneck striped zip jacket 60% off. The holy-grail Augustinus Bader body oil is also on sale in the beauty section at 20% off, which while not massively discounted is rare for AB skincare.
