482: Anti-Jane Birkin drag

Today’s send is dispatched to you from a walk down Canal street, where I’ve determined that a black straw basket strikes just the note for summer in the city: not twee Jane Birkin cosplay like a classic blonde one would be, not as “business casual” as a leather tote. I’m carrying a Caribbean-flavored one from Polo RL.
Today’s outfit also warrants congratulations to this year’s CFDA candidates (unintentionally, I got dressed before I saw the official announcement), specifically my Jamie Haller flip flops and Emily Dawn Long spike clip. It’s a very Magasin-coded generation, also including LII, ZGAW, Claire Sullivan, Juju Vera...plenty of names often crossing these pages.
Unrelatedly, the pants are Another Tomorrow, an excellent low slung wool with the teensiest bit of elastane for shine.

What’s new
Some of the first items from Phoebe Philo's Collection E are here, continuing the designer's slow-and-steady rollout of highly scrutinized wardrobe propositions. As such: a wet-looking white silk slip dress, a neutral-menthe colorway of the elongated shirt, and a $500 electric green flip-flop. As usual, we’re staying tuned for the outerwear…
After a seven-year hiatus, Marc Jacobs Beauty is officially back. The relaunch is here for a high-impact mylar finish—Jeff Koons-ian metallic components and all. Among the strongest returns are updated descendants of some of the line’s most beloved products. Legally Bronze blurring bronzer picks up where the coconut perfect tan left off, while Drawn This Way eyeliner revisits the legacy of the highliner with a 2026 upgrade, wacky colors included.
Utah-to-NYC creator Courtney Grow has launched her collaboration with Reformation, and the resulting collection feels like a lovechild between the interiors of the Plaza and the late Gramercy Park Hotel (but…clothes). There are crochet separates (the Montana skirt and Lassoff top is the ideal summer duo), linen dresses (the backless Sol is brilliant) with a few colored satin pieces for pizzazz, like the Zoe Sage sandals and the Molly Maude clutch.
There’s some more Khaite PF26 on-site, proposing just a touch of elevation for your impending transitional wardrobe. As for what’s in the drop: A rib-height double-button pencil skirt in double-faced crepe, some sculpted organza in blouse-format, and an ankle-strap leather sandal in turquoise ostrich. A mini new offering with maximum impact.
We can shop Anthony Vaccarello’s FW26 Saint Laurent, and it evolves the office siren into a new corporate woman: the office bitch. Particular attention goes to the Brigitte pumps in TPU and python, a pair of shoes that are snotty office sneer incarnate. Color is also very important; acidic citron in the brocade skirts, lace on the camisoles layered under thick, authoritarian herringbone suiting.
Two brands deserve official placement on the watch list this week. Introducing Herman, a menswear-inspired womenswear brand that does masculinity without dressing down (see: the shirt jacket); they also do one hell of a car coat. Now meet Briah Artemis, an NYC-based label whose SS26 offering leans a distinctly confrontational sense of femininity; aka, a New York woman. There are bumster trousers, unitard-like catsuits, and soft hats constructed entirely from reworked vintage t-shirts.
We want a girl with a short skirt, and a long jacket… and an even longer bag. The east-west silhouette (bags that are wider than they are tall) is the season's preferred accessory format. Bottega Veneta's Cabat Mare combines canvas with Intrecciato weaving for a beach tote take on the idea. Métier's Cala 42 tote combines rich suede and hand-braided leather trim, while Jamie Haller's East West bag reimagines the classic bowler with a lengthened profile. Honorable mention goes to the Eileen by La Collection, a lambsilk-lined calf leather number with an envelope-like shape built for evening plans.
More swimwear and resortwear has arrived just in time for the annual summer heatwave. Fruity Booty really goes there with seersucker in its SS26 drop; the Laguna bikini is a clear hero. And then there’s Staud's collaboration with Positano institution Da Adolfo, which translates beach-club memorabilia into genuinely covetable clothing (the fish logo turns out to be an unexpectedly elevated motif, like on this beaded skirt). Tekla also enters the swimwear game with some characteristic Scandi practicality: one scoop-neck one-piece, one swim short, and a few lightweight sarongs.
There’s also: Emily Dawn Long’s sea urchin bag (a spiky fringe clutch that marks the designer’s entry into after-dark accessories); High Sport’s latest summer drop, hibiscus fever dreams and Prada-circa-1996 energy, plus a couple exclusives only at Moda; LIÉ Studio’s first-ever sunglasses collection, we’ve granted the Robyn preliminary residency in our summer handbags; Alex Mill’s Summer Chapter 2, including a perfect linen pencil skirt that shares a name with our very own News Editor; Comme Si’s new cotton poplin stripes (we love the blue-on-blue); Tigra Tigra’s Collection 18 featuring a cancan dress seemingly engineered for its eponymous dance; and Manolo Blahnik x Emilia Wickstead, (the blue-and-black striped Maysli slingback…no notes).
Home releases
Zara Home has turned its attention to the surf and sand with a new beach collection. Linen, cotton, straw, and sun-faded colors dominate the range, which spans clothing, accessories, and soft goods designed for seaside destinations. The standout may be the backless linen-cotton beach dress, which looks exactly as airy and comfortable as summer clothing should. All in all, the spread is rich with ruched swimwear, striped towels, and woven tote bags.
There’s also: Scent as Talisman by Kindred Black, a 10-year-anniversary collection of glass candles topped with orb-shaped snuffers that will earn permanent counter placement long after the wax is gone; the safety boxes by Julia Esque at Building Block, a stackable stainless-steel container for valuables, delivered with the elegance of a Brancusi paperweight; and the wild collection by Magniberg, a black-and-white, animal-print terrycloth selection.
What’s on sale
Aritzia’s private summer sale has arrived, and it runs the gamut from 30–50% off. Everything from satin going-out frocks to staples like these chinos (50% off at $55) is represented. The event is typically one of the brand’s larger promotional moments before fall merchandise begins to appear, making it a notable checkpoint for anyone tracking the state of summer inventory—or just in need of some “cute” tops.
There’s also: Janessa Leone’s private sale (roughly 30% off across leather and straw hats and bags, plus wool knitwear; Kindred Black’s jewelry event including the Georg Jensen ebony Aura collar, which would look outrageous (complimentary) paired with a vintage YSL Mombasa (most discounts are in the 30% off range); an extra 25% off at Shopbop with EXTRA25 at checkout (the sneaker selection does not disappoint), and Armadillo’s sale edit with up to 60% off depending on size and colorway, like this 8’2” x 11’6” Petra rug marked down to 2k from 5k.
