467: Brooklyn easy
Little heels and flats that make the look.
In partnership with Margaux
I dress a little bit differently if I’m heading into the city (Manhattan, to non-New Yorkers) or sticking around in Brooklyn. I tend to gear up when going westward: patent boots, layering, my laptop bag. Locally, I can be soft. Here, I can give in to the urge to appropriate my indoor clothes for outdoor use; my favorite way to walk out the door.
I think about this approach as 1. weirdly a COVID thing (lots of half-baked dressing up in the mirror) and 2. very Loro Piana. My gentle, easy, lovingly amassed lounge-y pieces, organically arriving at an outfit with the introduction of a little heel or an intentional leather flat.
This send came together in partnership with Margaux, maker of just such shoes for frictionlessly slipping into on the occasion of heading somewhere close to home, or further afield… I dare you to find a more cushioned, comfortable pair that look half as good; there’s a reason I’ve had Margauxs in my closet for close to a decade.

Trench coat that’s basically a bathrobe meets shapely little graphic heel. Capris that look suspiciously like my workout pair. Easter-y green and a basket bag for the spring of it all.
Margaux The Deia 50, $365 / Lemaire Brown Soft Leather Jacket, $2,620 / Horse Sport The Big Short, $125 / The Row Dalia Bag, $1,990
I live in cotton shorts during the summer. Reach for the last-worn leather jacket when I concede it’s not quite warm enough. Step into the walking shoes by the door that somehow go with everything (even this). Bag on and I’m out.
Margaux The Selene 50, $365 / Rachel Comey Gosland Trench, $995 / Kye Intimates Recline Pants, $115 / Fane Bra Bag, $620
The concept extends to the evening hours, too, when I’m likely to be found at Frog or or Rhodora or Bar Americano. In pajama pants…a jacket possibly hiding a sweatshirt…a tasteful slide so that no one is any the wiser.
Margaux The Deia, $370 / Rubirosas Button Down Shirt (similar from Comme Si, $295) / Comme Si La Boxer Alta, $225 / Appenzeller Gurt Belt, $132+
Hardware is doing a lot of work here: a full cotton poplin set anchored by a studded belt and sandal with textural intrigue to provide the finish.
Margaux The Palermo Sandal, $335 / Vintage Prada Suit (similar on resale from Gucci, $1,068) / Claudent Button Up Shirt, $295 / Chan Luu Ultra Wide Waist Belt Black Mirror, $245
A suit de-suited on account of a good strappy flat. Opens up a lot of one’s more formal wardrobe for anytime wear, when you think about it. Even the shirt—UPF-protective beachwear—is only moonlighting as anything buttoned-up.
