405: How to throw a "very Magasin" cocktail party

French silver, gold leaf, custom uniforms, and a mentalist.

Last night, at a cocktail I hosted alongside ShopMy and 100 of our shared community’s closest confidants, one of the guests gestured at the scene and told me it was “very Magasin, like the newsletter in party form.” Is it smug of me to be flattered?

ShopMy—who cinched a $1.5 billion valuation with an announcement perfectly aligned with our event; lots to celebrate—were a dream partner. They were down for just about every outlandish idea I threw at them (hire a mentalist? Okay!), were thoughtful about all the little details down to the bespoke coffee sets we gifted to guests, and are, in a greater capacity, one of the reasons Magasin is able to deliver the reporting it does with no gods and no masters.

Pierre Augustin Rose Gallery

We set up at the French gallery’s New York space, newly opened as of this spring—a massive loft in Soho that was once Mario Sorrenti’s photo studio. We were the first outsiders to take over the space, but you know what, I bet we’re about to see a lot more.

ETI

Commissioned a custom 8x8’ table to display thousands of intricately designed dried fruit and nut arrangements—dates with whipped blue cheese, apricot leather with gold leaf, crushed pistachio tartlets…I’m married to the chef but judge for yourselves, it was bar none! Nir (Sarig, said husband) also prepared baklava and mixed Turkish coffee from Maru for guests as take-homes to enjoy for breakfast the next morning.

Colbo

Created custom uniforms for the staff: wool-viscose button-down shirts (with fabric sourced from past-season Khaite stock) and off-white canvas aprons. Designer Tal Silberstein also curated pants from Uniqlo (this style, $50) and white Sperry boat shoes ($100) to complete each look. The staff were some of the best-dressed people, I’m not afraid to say it!

Our first party, back in 2021, was at Colbo’s Lower East Side store, where Nir also designed a food installation. Feels so good to grow up together and kick unwavering mutual support back and forth over the years!!

Love Me Not Floral

Michelle Pelletier came by to see off her insane arrangements in the space with just minutes to space before catching a flight to Heathrow. Decadent bouquets of plumb white flowers and gravity-flouting berry-laden branches. Luxury in a vase!

LII and Sarah Eisman Studio

My outfit makers. Like seven people asked me if the dress was Prada: no! It’s LII SS26, even better. And from up close, my Sarah Eisman Studio jewelry catalyzed truly countless inquiries. Will tell you what I told them—she’s a new maker with a background in engineering crafting some deeply remarkable, worthily knowable pieces from gold, diamond, and many-colored sapphires. Someone to follow now before she inevitably blows up.

Most surefire way of making your party sufficiently cunty is with adequate amounts of sterling silver trays, champagne buckets, etc. No one could’ve possibly filled that role better than the nearly 200-year-old French brand Christofle.
