358: "TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES"
Plus Armani x Our Legacy is actually good, pre-Memorial Day sales, and two faves from Violet Gray's tiered discounts.
Find a list of only-here discounts up to 25% off in the Magasin Code Index. Added this week: 15% off at Le Point.
Are you guys going anywhere for Memorial Day? If I look suddenly tan it’s because I’ve switched from daily Jergens to the hardcore stuff while actually spending the long weekend organizing my house.
In today’s newsletter: the brainchild of a designer’s designer (it’s EDL); Fara Homidi and Westman Atelier are teaching me how to be a makeup person; what’s the deal with the brand Abadia—it looks nice; the Déhanche belt you want is on sale; and can I wear a Fendi bikini with a Collen Allen cap? Would you call the cops?
What’s new
My head spun when I first head about the Our Legacy Workshop x Emporio Armani capsule that was coming down the pipeline. Then I went to the previews they held in Midtown and was pretty impressed by the balance struck between the two brands. The vintage Armani sleuths (many of us here, I presume) will find familiar silhouettes to those encountered on eBay rabbit holes, but with an insouciant, downtownish twist in dialogue with Cafe Forgot-coded brands. It’s on SSENSE in women’s and men’s.
A little accessory tip from me before we delve too deep into the season and have to cut our losses (i.e. shop our own closet, be happy with the things we have, etc): Tory Burch sunglasses are the middle ground between nostalgic and culture-advancing, summer’s most urgent agendas. The side of me that’s searching for vintage Fendi Zucca bikinis and the other side that’s wondering if I can pair one with a Colleen Allen hooded cap coalesce here, on TBs expressively angled frames with logo step-and-repeat sides. I wear the monogram rectangle style and the shield runways, if you need a visual of exactly what I mean.
Also from Tory, an unexpected collab with Swedish candy brand BonBon—it brings sugary-toned takes on TB classics, the Miller sandal, the Fleming bag, best of all is the very runway locker key bracelet.
Emily Dawn Long is such a designer’s designer. Her latest is a collection of vintage graphic tees printed on the reverse with the words “TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES” in her signature typeface. You get two tees in one, each with it’s twin translucent through the threadbare fabric. Inspired idea!
And for those who asked about the sandals from my black trouser epic, they are new A.Emery. These ones, for $225. Reminded me to share the rest of SS25 that came in, including RTW. It’s all really well-priced, especially for the quality you get.
There’s also: Miu Miu launches on MyTheresa (important poplin shirt, important LBD); Nina Christen—footwear designer at Loewe, Bottega Veneta and Céline—exclusively launches her namesake shoe label Christen at Bergdorf Goodman; Bally introduces the Quarry sneaker…I’m becoming increasingly convinced seeing its emblem attached to good designs despite my mild logophobia; and COS’ summer capsule is live on site.
Home releases
Could be that I finally have a mini garden to consider (and my first gardening injury to wear like a medal), but this Haws England x Gardenheir collection means a lot to me. In horticulturist parlance, I’m busy TLOLWC (texting links of luxury watering cans) these days.
Minjae Kim, whose conceptual seating, surfaces, and lights are collected by TIWA gallery goers, can now be found in miniature at Beverly 1975. The LES home goods store is the first to carry Minjae’s entry level designs, starting with a conceptual, organically shaped incense holder.
There’s also: Tekla rereleases its beach towels—they’re lighter and more packable now; Christofle co-creates aluminum picture frame-like candelabras with French artist Mathias Kiss; and new lighting from In Common With, who introduce the Strata collection.
What’s on sale
Bunch of tiered discounts at Violet Gray, including up to 30% off for today only on bundles. Not to sound like a noob, but I finally got into Westman Atelier’s Baby Cheeks in Bichette, which I’ve been kind of using as a contour and it changed my whole super-simple makeup routine for the better. Same thing, kind of with Fara Homidi’s Lip Compact—this is my way into a red lip.
A Net-A-Porter Private Sale is underway, at 30% off. Some tabs to get you started: a Carven ribbed silk knit top; gorgeous gathered dress from a brand I don’t know much about, Abadia; a Khaite Olivia hobo, if you can believe it.
It’s my duty to inform you that Sophie Buhai is running a 20% off sale on some essentials and exceptionals alike. My heart is currently under the care of this onyx spear pendant…
Déhanche—the belt brand I’m wearing at least 50% of the time, including in the black trouser’s post (got as many Qs about this as I did the A.Emery sandals I linked above)—is offering an extra 30% off sale styles.
Speaking of the trouser index, those PRISCAVera trousers I had my eye on are 40% off at the brand’s sweeping sale with PVTAKE40.
And one for the interiors shoppers—Australian rug company Armadillo is letting go of some exceptional (and usually pricy) rugs for 40% off. If you are in the market, these are absolutely worth a click.
There’s also: It’s a big Private Sale week (ahead of MDW), so dropping a few multi-brand ones here, including Bergdorf Goodman’s 40% off designer sale, Saks’ very similar one (they are the same company, after all), and LN-CC / Maison Rogue if you’re after independent brands; AND smaller ones include Sea New York, Eckhaus Latta (with EATITUP), Co, and Fforme (with PRIVATE40).
