This was a truly helpful and impressive post! Not sure any pant would be up to the challenge of not giving me a “unibutt,” but maybe?

I have been hunting the same white whale since I accidentally placed my PERFECT black Acne trousers in a clothing recycling bag and deposited it at a Zara store. The shame.

Really great coverage, Laura. It might have been helpful to begin with your specific fit needs. For example, I have never found pants with a droopy crotch so not sure what your specific fit issue is. Do you have a particularly low rise. I am tall and much prefer high rise that falls at the natural waist and I’d love to see a round up of those. Inseam length is also a big issue; at 5’10” with long legs, many pants are way to short. I find many designers and boutique owners design/buy for their own unique body shape. Many women need a rounded hip, perhaps you do not. Would love to see a more inclusive list if you have a chance sometime.

Yeah, i totally get that! Pant shopping is so personal. So much so that the only way for me to gauge a pant is by trying it out on the one and only body I DO have. This list was entirely through my own lens, but I've tried to provide enough granular detail throughout that hopefully someone with a different list of criteria can still find it useful (e.g. if you know you do well with a longer rise, I've called out almost every instance where I've come across them throughout!)

Chiming in to say Favorite Daughter pants are really well made despite being synthetic - I have seen them all over Poshmark and eBay too.

they're definitely a cult item! and even a ton of higher end brands use high poly content, so it's not dig to them. just personal preference, but i think worth exploring if it doesn't bother others

Perfect reporting. Need this but for jeans - now that I’ve finally found jeans that have the butt cleave I can’t unsee my other jeans that give me monobutt

i have jeans on the roadmap! it's even tougher though bc so many of the best jeans are just insanely specific vintage levi's styles

would love to have even just that info - are we talking styles the consistency project could source? or like setting ebay alerts and praying levels of specific

As a Brit, I’d never considered the difference between “pants” and “trousers” in American, but I can totally see it now, trousers are for grownups.

The search for the perfect trouser is almost sisyphosian task.

its such a funny line between the two that was created entirely bottom up. we hijacked the words to have them do our bidding!

I recently caved in and bought a pair (risky for me since I live in Europe and returning would be painful) and I really love them! Admittedly I got them now because I'm pregnant and most of my pants are becoming too tight but they are great even if you're bloated or have weight fluctuations. I got the size 0 because I'm quite short and it's a super nice fit. I thought they would be even baggier especially in the waist but that's not the case. The only slight downside for me is that the holes on the sides are quite large and you can see the underwear so I can't wear them like that at my workplace. Initially I thought that I could maybe safety-pin the holes but there's not enough fabric at the waist to do that without altering the fit. The solution I've found is to wear some silk shorts that I normally wear around the house underneath the pants. They're not bulky and hide the underwear perfectly to the point where you can't even tell they're not part of the pants.

Ahhhh thank you so much for your feedback!! I was wondering if they could be work-appropriate too 😆 I would love to know where you get those silk shorts from, they sound great!
