336: PFW Days 8 + 9 / Fashion week wrapped
Plus design fair highlights, window-shopping showrooms, and a three-look finale.
Introducing Magasin’s pop-up Fashion Week newsletter-within-a-newsletter, where we’ll be covering shoppable observations from scenes of interest daily: Paris Fashion Week, Days 8 + 9.
Weather report
44ºF / 6º C — dropping sharply on my way out the door, but not quite cold enough for me to wear the Ter Et Bantine ankle-length fur I thrifted just before this trip…I hear New York is frigid at least?
Itinerary

11a Loewe presentation
12:30p We Are Ona lunch — feat. guest chef Imogen Kwok and guest designer Willo Perron, at the Matter and Shape tents in the Jardin des Tuileries

2:30p Jude showroom — shoe brand from By Far alumni, now in its second season
4p Dover Street Market Paris presents “Fashion Is Not an Art Like Any Other” — enlightening conversation between 10 Corso Como’s Carla Sozzani, Suzy Menkes, and Louise Baring. I bought Carla’s new book from DSM’s Rose Bakery following the event.

Now that I’m officially in international air space, everything I bought in Paris:
These Lemaire Micro Ballerina 85 heels that I ended up wearing a lot, like what would I have done without them, and how could I even imagine my future without them at this point? They’re extremely comfortable, and my idealized Parisian, dfressed-for-herself chic.
Lemaire x Carlos Peñafiel leather shell coin purse. I strung it on this strap that goes with my Porto pouch to wear it as a necklace, a perfect match.
Issey Miyake wool cape from Gaijin, allegedly from 2004 or 2014, according to the sales associate who said the serial numbers repeat every decade. Upon further research, it looks…identical to this current-season one, which makes me think it may actually be 2024, and I got it for a steep discount.
XXL safety pin from Gaijin
Ton Magazine, Issue 3, from the Matter and Shape gift shop
Carla Sozzani: Art, Life, Fashion by Louise Baring, the book I picked up after Carla’s talk at DSM
Nir got two sweaters from Cristaseya that I’ll probably wear, too
Pharmacy miscellanea—hair clips and Embryolisse and various vitamins
An emergency swimsuit from Etam because I’d forgotten one
An emergency suitcase from Monoprix because of all the wine we’re bringing back
Gifts! I can’t talk about them here yet.
A few showrooms I passed by that caught my eye, some familiar, others of interest by association: Nordic knitwear Anna Ruohonen, Mongolian cashmere Oyuna, handmade Italian leather shoes Shoto, La Garçonne cast member Bea Mombaers (it’s leather bags) and Antipast (Japanese socks and more), Kuro Denim, Danish basics Aiayu, and Pas de Calais…which was right next door to my hotel, and yet I never made it in, sigh.
And two promising stores I only window-shopped: l l O S A and Jacob Cohen denim.
Carla Sozzani, founder of the original “concept store” 10 Corso Como, used to have her own brand, NN Studio, which you can still find traces of on resale platforms. She was also formerly a business partner of Romeo Gigli, to offer a quick orientation to her designs.
Sat next to the lovely
at the Paloma Wool show thanks to our hosts Merit, and her to-the-point Toronto shopping guide is as follows: 100% Silk Shop, Absolutely Fabrics, and River Crossing.Had an absolutely intel-PACKED conversation with the jewelry designer behind the Chloé banana line and Lemaire’s girasols at my friend Sophie’s apéro, but never caught her name. I learned a lot about acetate and French sunglass production (there’s a whole town dedicated to it, like Grasse is to fragrance) and, importantly, that Rouje, Jeanne Damas’ brand, actually makes great jeans.
Cutlery in the Air France lounge at Charles De Gaulle is made by Christofle, an update to the Raymond Loewey designs for First Class in days of the Concorde. There’s a lively second-hand market for either era in a very pick-your-own-design-adventure way.
That’s a wrap for PFW, which means I’m winding down my daily blogs through Report Back—for a month, at least. See you again in early April for our first ever Milan Design Week reportage, and stay tuned for some exciting news on the Magasin Interiors front announcing soon.
