334: PFW Days 4 + 5 / Alaïcopedico
Plus locals' shopping lists, Nereja in the wild, and trois looks.
Introducing Magasin’s pop-up Fashion Week newsletter-within-a-newsletter, where we’ll be covering shoppable observations from scenes of interest daily: Paris Fashion Week, Days 4 + 5.
Weather report
53ºF / 12º C — the weather was…perfect, anyone would tell you that. But can I just complain about the traffic real quick? There’s a saying in rural Ireland that I think applies best to Paris during fashion week: “You can’t get there from here!”
Itinerary
Mar 6
9:30a Norlha showroom
10a Savette showroom — they’ve sold over 12k units of the Pochette bag in three years…impressive to brush up against the luxury old guard like that
11:15a Skall Studio showroom — the brand’s collaboration with American hiking shoe company Keen is being extended for FW25

2p Carolina Herrera re-see

12p Schiaparelli re-see
1p Issey Miyake show
2p Polo Ralph Lauren presentation — the styling was maddeningly good, enough to be the shoppiest show I’ve seen all week. I’m legitimately impatient to get into these looks come fall.
3p Róhe Frames showroom
3:30p Awaykin showroom — feat. current favorites Cawley Studio, Camiel Fortgens, Florist, Gottlob, and new ones like Kate Walz (high-integrity staples like jeans and pinstripe pants, plus artfully salvaged gorpy one-offs)

6p Bode store opening — Bode panties are here…I think I need to go back for a stripy red pair
6:30p Substack cocktail at Château Voltaire

Magasin intel
A great sight at The Row boutique: A woman had flung her reworked-vintage Nereja ocelot coat and Balenciaga Rodeo, adorned with a Prada bear charm, over an armchair while she pinballed between the shoe and bag departments. This is diversified, verging on chaotic, modern-day luxury in a snapshot.
Two by-appointment vintage store tips from French journalist Minako Norimatsu: Insitu Clothing, from the daughter of revered YSL collector Olivier Chatenet, and L’Annexe Quidam, a small but powerful operation that holds the interest of Suzanne Koller, Sophie Buhai, Camille Vergnes, Jenn Park, and Thistle Brown, among others.
A Paris shopping list from the Jacquemus team, heard second-hand through Brandon Tan:
Speaking of Gaijin, I was so inspired by the Issey Miyake show and had found myself in the vicinity of the Japanese vintage archive, so I promptly bought a 2004 twisted cape (like this but not quite). It’s an extraordinary piece I can think of wearing at least four different ways (as cloak, as top, as skirt, as other kind of top)—outfit pic coming soon I’m sure.
I heard from a reliable source that something like 60% of Alaïa’s business is coming in through ballerina sales. Might explain why the shoe is being constantly remixed. I went into the store on Rue de Moussy and spotted a crochet pair that looked suspiciously like the Italian orthopedics Arcopedico that’ve already been up-duped by Toteme.
I took
on a drive-by of Veronica Marucci Chapeaux, a wildly elegant and experimental milliner on Rue Saint Roch. He spotted a Prada book propped open…unconfirmed but judging by some of the runway styles, it wouldn’t be too egregious to assume we’d found their maker. Also on that block was Bienaimé, a cosmetics shop founded in 1935 that makes beautifully packaged soaps and candles, like a lesser-known Officine Universelle Buly. Very giftable stuff.
