316: What's really new
Welcoming Delia Cai! Plus Alex Mill's January capsule, Carmen Amsterdam's sale, and a new Alaia flat.
This week I made my first official fashion purchase of 2025: these Le Monde Beryl apres ski shearling flats from L’Ensemble. (Also must show you these boots from the new collection, yeow.) Then I made my second (from the Skims sale, more on that below) and third (these Emme Parsons Mary Janes for half off).
Before I bury the lede, though, here’s what’s really new this week— is joining Magasin as our first ever managing editor. Delia is more experienced and knowledgable when it comes to newsletters than arguably anyone, having helmed her cultural weathervane of a publication for nearly a decade (!) and pulled off the genius newsletter-within-a-newsletter Hate Reads last summer.
An (incredibly flattering) quote from Delia about coming on board:
“For the past few years, I've been observing the rise of Magasin with a mixture of envy, awe, and serious respect for what Laura has built. It doesn't take a fashion person to understand that Magasin is at the forefront of the newsletter-based media wave, or that Laura has become one of the leading writer-muse-tastemakers of our time. I truly believe Magasin has what it takes to not only redefine media itself, but also to deeply influence the way we relate to beautiful objects and how we might move through a world in an ambient state of admiration. It's very exciting to join Laura's team and help grow the inevitable Magasin empire.”
Delia’s going to be working largely behind the word, consulting, editing, executing new projects, and occasionally jumping in with world-orienting insights when the occasion calls.
If you’ve ever had a conversation with Delia or garnered her wit from one of her sends, you already know this means we’re sharpening our knives for what’s going to be a bonkers year at Magasin.

What’s new
The jewelry collaboration with Moya was one of the most striking and memorable elements of Fidan Novruzova’s killer SS25 collection, a femme fatale advancement of the deco wave underway. My favorite pair, first spotted at the preview on Fidan’s modish 007-ish mannequins, is finally available for pre-order for shipment by end of month.
Khaite’s R25 won a lot of bookmarks from my browser this week. (Is it just me or are the resort pieces the ones that stay in our closets the longest?) The barely-just-got-here Simona in calfhair is already on a waitlist (still around in calfskin though…or in the Cate top-handle, which, woof), the Trenton Pant pairs a very deluxe-looking tropical wool with an insouciant drawstring waistband, and I can see very clearly that the Basile Bodysuit is its rightful partner.
Lunar New Year is two weeks away, and building on last week’s reported launches in its honor (Tory Burch, Acne, Norlha) come four more and counting: Aritzia taps illustrator Jessie Wong for a Year of the Snake capsule; COS releases a limited-edition collection; Byredo invites artist Wei Yijuan to capture a selection of fragrances including Desert Dawn and Rose of No Man’s Land; and Lemaire updates its line of Gear bags in a deepest-black navy for the occasion.
Regular degular (i.e. Gregorian) New Year collaborations are still coming through, like a lineup of emoji-esque Loewe cloud accessory exclusives at MyTheresa, Bevza’s Crushed Grain Bag (seen and smittened by at the preview in Sept—it can be closed two different ways) meant to usher in a year of good fortune, and Italian vintage savant Maj Kiosk’s first 2025 drop, password-protected with NEWY3AR.
Attersee is New York’s own Charvet: cultish and refined, timeless with a beating heart. Its resort collection, out now, affirms that with a focus on shirting in many iterations including collarless, sheer, dress-length, and in boxer form.
Hot dog watch…the rare studded Alaia Teckel I snagged by the grace of god last year is back in stock at SSENSE. (There’s a single unit left.)
More urgent, though, may be Alaia’s newly released biker ballet flats, which possess the consummate anatomy of a hit.
Alex Mill released its first capsule of 2025, and it looks a lot like…relaxed fisherman cardigans, cropped chore jackets, drawstring pants for being out in public, cashmere vests, and an update to the chore jacket (now in waxed!) that spells out future ubiquity.
I have a pet theory that Y/Project’s closing means Glenn Martens is headed to Margiela. Wishful thinking and the kind of thing best left to Lauren Sherman, but it hasn’t stopped me feeling a collector’s itch for a great brand before it’s gone forever. Similarly, with JW Anderson likely headed to Dior and the fate of his own brand unclear, and Proenza Schouler’s Jack and Laz on their way to fill his seat, I am of a mood to make sure my archive fully reflects this era, before its players ascend out of the namesakes that made them.
Louis Vuitton reunites with Takashi Murakami after 12 years since the pair’s first collaboration—more rollouts through the season, but Multi Monogram styles are now live on the site, elegantly ushered in by Zendaya.
Home releases
I went to the intersection of fashion and design, and everyone knew you but they were all distracted by these really crazy chairs. CSM alum Chet Lo lent his signature soft, spiky knitwear to furniture designer Amber Rankin’s modernist chaises for a highly touchable capsule of three swoopy fainting couches, a stool, and matching pillows.
A.P.C. makes olive oil? And it’s in its third season already? It’s produced in Gard, France by Moulin des Ombres du Château de Montfrin and Jean Touitou recommends pairing it with cod, steamed apples, or chickpeas. He’s having fun.
Melbourne lighting company Coco Flip collaborated with ceramicist Belinda Wiltshire on a suite of striped lamps (shaded by black iron oxide) that are somehow both silly and serious. If Maryam Keyhani was a lamp…
What’s on sale
Carter Young is quickly becoming a household name among the Magasin family—I’m wearing it, Louis’ wearing it, Nir’s wearing it…The grown in New York menswear brand is running a 30% off sitewide sale, as good a time as ever to pick up this really beyond good trench or some perfect cords.
I got two quickly clicked emails from Carmen Amsterdam this week. One, to visit the guesthouse (soon, I truly hope), and two, that the store is having one of its great sales. As usual, it’s full of brands I tend to shop (Flore Flore, Baserange, MNZ, Martiniano) and photographed in a way that makes me love my chosen hobby of clothes the most. That a bunch of no-longer Saks Potts is included makes the sale feel even more pressing.
Skims is up to half off in its Winter Sale, and usually the stock is decimated and my size is far gone. This time I found my favorite hoodie (I’m wearing it now) in black. Glitch in the matrix-type odds so of course I got it, plus a strapless bra for good measure (only $27).
Forgivable deception: I am short and have small feet, so I got these elongated Mary Janes from Emme Parsons’ sale to fool onlookers.
Moda Operandi’s sale is now up to 70% off and a few things immediately stood out to me—a genuine leather Frankie Shop skirt under $300, plenty of Marlies Grace, final-season Dries by Dries, and aggressively discounted The Row.
There’s also: Those little jean butt bags Medea makes (so cute uwu), plus the necklace I’ve held in my mind for nearly two years, are 30% off in the brand’s sale on its FW24 collection; and Family Style is running a studio sale and bundling four copies of its 2024 issues for $60.

Great sentiment xo
Will you be doing an everything you purchased in 2024 roundup? Last years was my favorite post ever!
