307: $7,000 for an old coat is cheap when someone else is paying $55k
Plus Toteme's holiday capsule, Gohar World x Metier, and introducing The Cake Shoppe.
If my promotions tab is any indication, sale season may never truly end. But lest we all get vertigo trying to take advantage of them all, this unnamed Wednesday of the year feels like a nice time to check back in with what’s happening in the new and now.
It’s an all-news week here at Magasin, replete with intel and opportunity to check off all the boxes remaining in 2024: holiday parties, gift giving, my birthday this weekend…things we all universally care about!
See the latest (and wish me a happy Sag season) below the fold.

What’s new
The Fashion Icons sale at Sotheby’s sent viral by CBK stan accounts is finally underway, with bidding now open until December 17th. Already, the price of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s single-breasted black Prada coat is up to $30k over estimates at $55k (another identical unit is $7k OBO on eBay), and her Yohji is hovering at a cool $15k. There are some slightly (slightly) less pedigreed items in the mix too—like an early ‘60s Balenciaga silk sheath and Giambatista Valli’s 2005 Ostrich mini, both estimated to sell for $1,500.
The Row and Toteme each released holiday edits this week, the former’s a titillating blend of hunted favorites like the Liisa d’Orsay heels in seasonally requisite metallic and heady, heavy gowns marked “Price Upon Request” (ooooh). The latter’s suggests flannel PJs for going out in, shearling T-Lock bags, and double-knit dresses alongside ostensible gifts: a creamy T-lock cardholder, gold knotted earrings, and an elegant leather jewelry case for traveling.
Old Stone Trade, the Franken-brand made up of fastidiously scouted artisans, released a terrifically chic holiday capsule that channels a country home in the Cotswolds in the heritage-obsessed way for which it’s become known. It includes sweaters made wholly by single knitters out of Milan and a made-to-order silk-wool LBD. Points for pearls and moccs with both, of course.
Leila and Nadia Gohar have put their cheeky-culinary twist on a fresh collection of leather goods for Metier. The assortment includes pochettes, bucket bags, and wine carriers—many handpainted with the Gohar girls’ now-signature beans—as well as some sweet (or savory) produce-inspired bag charms.
Also of importance at the intersection of food and fashion,
of launched an online shop for snack-themed wearables. The idea for the Cake Shoppe (great name) actually predated the newsletter by some time, and it makes sense that Khuyen, who I’ve seen get stopped in the street countless times by people asking about her edible-looking pretzel-roll phone case and chocolate-bar lighter, would be the one to perfectly execute the concept.Charlotte Chesnais has entered the echelon of buzzy Palm Heights collabs, and her whimsical-wavy metals fit right in. The 11-piece capsule consists of hand-threaded chokers, earrings, and anklets (noticeably forgoing the wrist)—just right for lounging beachside.
Jimmy Fallon’s perfectly named collaboration with Alex Mill (P’Jimmies!) wasn’t on our bingo card, but it is, admittedly, pretty charming. Sleep shirts, pants, and shorts are available in pastel color blocks, stripes, and, our favorite, mixed flannel.
Nearly two decades after the debut of her seminal Topshop collection, Kate Moss is re-entering the high street universe—this time with Zara. Her just-launched 30-piece capsule contains plenty for upcoming parties (this beaded micro-mini will be pretty cute) alongside some smart staples, like a burgundy cowskin coat for just under $1,000.
Studio Nicholson, JW Anderson, Jacquemus, and Toteme have brought new launches to the bag category, all priced below $1,500. Studio Nicholson’s contribution is a soft, considered collection, ranging from slouchy hobos to mini leather pouches. JW Anderson has created the Loafer Bag—a bag with, you guessed it, loafer details—it actually looks a lot chicer than it sounds (especially in brown suede). Jacquemus is launching the Turismo, an elegant bowling bag with minimalist details, and Toteme is issuing their best selling T-Lock in a sleek, black pony.
Erika Wright’s British sourcing platform, Sourcewhere, has officially launched stateside. The concept (with the slogan, “it’s out there, somewhere”) streamlines the hunt for high-end and hard-to-find items, like sold-out Alaïa shoes or rare vintage Hermès, aggregating results for members onto its website or app.
Sophie Buhai’s discerning holiday edit is, predictably, composed of beautiful things I never knew I needed (and now must have). Nothing screams elegance like a bezel-set moonstone and onyx lighter, or a pair of carnelian tassel earrings—notably marked as evening weight.
Building upon their penchant for collaborating with like-minded fashion brands, MERIT beauty and Completedworks are launching a limited-edition jewelry collaboration as a companion to MERIT’s first fragrance, Retrospect. The collaboration includes two earring styles in silver and gold, inspired by the fragrance bottle’s organic silhouette, and can be purchased separately or as a set.
Khaite’s latest resort drop is an aspirational take on holiday dressing—one rife with rich satins in separates and gowns, as well as shoulder-length gloves and the occasional furry handbag.
MyTheresa has launched capsules with Alaïa and Simone Rocha—two brands across the amorous spectrum, from Alaïa’s stark sex-appeal to Rocha’s irreverent romance. The Alaïa side includes the newest Teckel bag silhouettes and a full stock of crystal ballerinas, while rambling, red bows make appearances on shoes, sweaters, and earrings from Simone Rocha.
More Alex Mill news—the brand is collaborating with all-knowing editor and purveyor of 5 Things, Becky Malinsky, on a collection called Holiday Things. Shimmery viscose tees and lilac velvet trousers are highlights.
Curated luxury reseller, Bessette (named not for the woman, but the Scandi noun obsessed—though the picks are very her style) is launching “12 Days of Bessette” with new drops of Toteme, Jil Sander, The Row, and Khaite through December 12th.
There’s also: ECCO’s experimental arm, ECCO.kollektive, taps Raf Simons-trained Louis-Gabriel Nouchi to create a unisex collection of bags, shoes, and clothing in sensual, polished leather; Willow Smith is the latest collaborator in the Moncler Genius succession, and her collection of bulbous puffers, trousers, and knits is surprisingly wearable; Bottega Veneta reimagines the classic Gino Sarfatti Model 600 lamp in its new collaboration with Italian lighting manufacturer, Flos; the Maria McManus PS25 collection is live, with skin-baring knit polos, oversized tunics in red and pink, and the usual smart tailoring; and Scandi artist Pien Barendregt releases a collection of soft suede and leather totes in her signature assortment of opalescent tones and minimalist silhouettes.
