288: Hark! The fall '24 shopping spreadsheet
1,000+ links to what we're buying, wearing, and wishlisting for fall.
I’ve spend the last 48 hours assembling, researching, and otherwise preparing the 2024 fall shopping spreadsheet for consumption, so I’ll keep this brief.
As has become tradition in this newsletter, I recently petitioned Magasin subscribers and my IG followers to share the details of their fall shopping. I received 1,000+ replies about what exactly people are buying, wanting, watching, holding onto, and bracing for.
A few top-level observations: Congrats to the handful of you who sprung for Margauxs this year; the Bally boat shoe is not even close to peak ubiquity—guessing we’ll begin to reach that by the end of this season; the Madewell x Alexa Chung collab was a success, judging by the popularity of its suede trench; we’re loving these Cos tees; and, yeah, you bet, lots of barn coats.
I find the data—raw and unanalyzed—far more interesting in this case than the trends, however. I might’ve come into this project with my own wishlist (including Metier’s Private Eye bag and Extreme Cashmere’s Tina tee), but I discovered a whole new set of beautiful things to consider for the season through the submitted responses: Citizens of Humanity jeans that look like my favorite vintage pair, only longer; incredible leather derby shoes from a brand I’d never heard of before; and a Soeur wool coat for less than $900 among them.
Here’s the fall shopping spreadsheet.
Most of what’s linked out currently are exact product matches to the various submissions, when they were specific enough to track down. I intend to continue combing through and adding in my picks (linked in green text) as the evening goes on, so do keep a tab open or check back if that’s something you’d like to see more of.
And if you weren’t among the initial hundreds who send in answers that now populate this sheet, you can still submit your own shopping details via the survey here. The spreadsheet is a living document, and I’ll be updating it as new info comes in.
Feel free to share the spreadsheet or forward this email far and wide to any friend who’s in a fall shopping rut. Over a thousand Magasin-reader responses can’t be wrong!
