Shoppable observations
LII Studio—the young brand whose opera coat I fell in love with at the showroom this past February—was just picked up by SSENSE today. It’s currently the brand’s exclusive wholesale partner and a solid 16 pieces, including the opera coat, are finally available to the world.
It didn’t occur to me until today that Tibi is slowly reinventing Courreges’ 1960s space boot with its various gogo-ish styles (the clear vinyl boot, the Borg sock boot). There’s been an ongoing conversation this week about “what’s the new Studio 54” (there isn’t one) and “where are we supposed to go dancing in New York?” (Bushwick.) Alaia invited editors to visit an exhibition at The Brant Foundation featuring photos of Azzedine Alaia with Andy Warhol, Diana Ross, a smattering of charismatic bon vivants. It feels to me like the culture is craving some of the glamor and loosened inhibition of that time.
Oset Babur posted about an Uptown antique store going out of business. Looks like a lot of nice glassware and ceramics and even nicer prices. 73rd and Lexington.
