Shoppable observations
Of all the lines I saw in Paris (a city that has learned to love lines more than New York, LA, or San Francisco), he two no-contest largest were both extremely surprising: at skincare brand The Ordinary, just outside the Eckhaus Latta showroom where I was told the crowds had gathered for free lip balm and an extended product range not usually available locally. And outside Polene, the affordable French handbag brand that’s sometimes called “luxury” in the way that Kate Spade has held the title to some generations. Honorable mention to Stussy, though by my count, streetwear’s hype beast-ism is ceding to the forces of girly pop.
I got a sneak preview of
’s apartment last night, and I have to say the stainless steel Christofle flatware egg made quite the impression held within those curved walls and custom-handled wood cabinetry. Here’s a vintage version in sterling silver for 76% less.I fell into Antwerp-based shoe brand Ottange’s lap during my showroom visit with Panconesi, and though the current season offering is sparse (the website has pieces labeled for FW23), next year’s ropey flats and pointelle heels have given me a lot to look forward to.
Azur World had a few samples up of a pre-order collaboration they are launching with Réuni on the walls at its popup with Everyone’s Mother. The ultra-soft merino tanks are hand-dipped from top and bottom, with Rothko-like sunsets splitting them horizonally. Generally, Réuni makes fantastic “basics,” artfully dyed or not, coming out of Toledo, Spain.
Closing thoughts
My clever idea to knock this send out on the plane before much of New York was awake was foiled by bad wifi. I finally watched Anatomy of a Fall instead, ergo, late-night send today.
Thank you to everyone who reached out to tell me you were enjoying this pop-up format and to those who shared it! On my part, I found it to be very satisfying to get my thoughts (and fits) out in real time rather than hoard them all for the very end and ultimately hit you with a wall of text.
A deeper dive coming to you soon from Louis, and then back to news you can use in the Weekly with Em. Glad you seemed to be having fun alongside me in the meantime!
