Shoppable observations
At Super Yaya’s showroom (being held in the Cristaseya space, for those who’ve had a chance to visit the ephemeral shop), brand founder Rym Beydoun handed me a cup of water in this wide-mouthed Wasara wax-paper vessel—a disposable cup so pretty you’d want to keep it forever. Beydoun hand-carried hers back from a trip to Japan but knew they were gettable Stateside, too, having had them at her picnic with Gohar World in New York last year, to celebrate their collaboration. Wasara also makes disposable wine glasses, mugs, bowls, and “pots” that look nothing like what you’d find among Solo’s SKUs.
I tried to stop by the Lemaire store but was deterred by a line outside—likely because they’re currently running ventes privées (private sales). So, here’s a hot tip I picked up from my visit here in March: Those painted wood Lemaire bird whistles I could never bring myself to spend $300 on are manufactured by a French company called Quelle Est Belle and carried in their raw form at The Broken Arm (and online here). They cost only $24, and are lovely as is or would make a great art project to gift or keep.
On my walk to Lemaire, I got pulled into a small shop for the shoe brand Zoe Lee, which I thought was cool in an Irregular Choice-Camper-John Fleuvog-meets-2000s-All Saints kind of way. There, I met Isabelle Epskamp and we got to talking; she tells me she’s launching a designer archive platform called Second Language Paris, and it sounds like it’ll be the French version of what Sensoria is doing out of New York. Will be a space to watch for discovering new talent at nice prices.
Everyone was talking about the Courréges custom water cans.
said he stole a 4-pack and planned to keep them in his fridge and never open them like a kind of private installation. (It’s a tough break when your food and bev out-virals your actual collection.) It’s not news that you can get anything custom, but this place will print anything on a can and send it already filled with sparkling water. Put your brand on it! Put your face on it! Put Louis’ face on it!
Party scene — Colbo x Blackbird Spyplane x Neighbor at Le Mary Celeste
I’ll take a leap of faith and assume Tal was wearing Colbo. The brand’s other helmer, Eldar, wore Comme pants and would hate me for telling you she had on a Gimaguas top that I inquired about (“Is it Petit Bateau?”) for its elegant overlapping-shoulder boat neck. BBSP’s Jonah had on a shirt from our friend Oliver Church, which I mentioned in yesterday’s newsletter (Oliver was also there wearing decade-old Oliver). BBSP’s Erin, who I missed but texted to give me her outfits deets, wore a vintage silk Agnès B. blouse, Rachel Comey skirt, vintage polo button up, and Our Legacy “strainers.” I also saw Kathleen Sorbara (likely in vintage), Connor McKnight (likely in Connor McKnight), Anna Santangelo (like in some Sanangelo), and a bunch of other friends and strangers I won’t pretend to know outfit details for.
