Day 1, Look 1
The Row Xhefri Hat, $620 / Tove Yoonmi Coat, $1,845 / Janessa Leone Jett Belt, $240 / The Row heeled ballet shoes (similar from Proenza Schouler, $675) / artisan basket bag (similar from Etsy, $40)
Live the Process Tuxedo Cardigan (available in marl for $228, available on eBay in size L for $76, or similar from La Ligne for $250) / Tove Flor Skirt, $385 / Erede Hinged Hoops, $3,600 / Erede Axle Ring, $4,400
So, I got the hat. After sheepishly posting in the Magasin chat asking whether I should buy this felted driver’s cap from The Row’s SS24 collection that just landed—to which many of you responded that it looked like a glorified Kangol (fair!) and that “it’s giving pickup artist” (!!!)—I made the pilgrimage up to 71st and took all of five minutes in the brand’s airy flagship to tell the associate that, yep, wrap it up, I’m taking it.
It wound up being the perfect partner to the Tove coat I wrote about last week (which in turn found a bizarrely great match in this Janessa Leone belt), one I’m having a full-blown love affair with. The thought crossed my mind that I hoped winter wouldn’t go by too quickly so that I could get more wear out of it…it wasn’t a thought I stand by, but a thought that occurred nonetheless.
Day 1, Look 2
Prada Suede Blazer, $8,100 (available in limited sizes, $5,633) / Prada Gabardine Skirt, $1,150 / vintage Miu Miu heels (similar from eBay, $282) / Janessa Leone Lowe Bag, $530 / Rodebjer Pendant Necklace, $520 / Sophie Buhai Everyday Hoops, $162 $275
Between the suede jacket and crinkled skirt, I wound up wearing almost all of my Prada to the Prada Beauty party, ultimately resisting slipping into my patent white Prada loafer heels and opting for vintage Miu Mius instead (at least I kept it in the family).
I also—and this is rare, really—put on a lip, in honor of the brand’s US makeup launch. I didn’t wear Prada Beauty (though I picked up a few shades and am experimenting with them now), but rather a Byredo liquid lipstick in Utopie, which for my skin tone (olive-leaning) is the ultimate my-lips-but-better shade I’ve ever tried.
Day 2, Look 1
Veronica De Piante Amaia Jacket, $5,995 / Dal the Label linen shorts (similar from The Frankie Shop, $118 $198 / Maison Margiela FW17 Trompe L'oeil Tabi Boots (similar from Margiela, $1,193 $1,590 and similar from Zara, $109)
Eckhaus Latta Thermal Lapped Baby Tee, $168 $259 / Mulberry Iris Swirl Tote Bag, $2,051 / Agmes Gertrude Brooch, $460 / Completedworks gold ear cuff (available in resin, $70 $175 and similar from Missoma, $51) / vintage ring from Casa Shop (similar, $1,200)
Shorts! In February! I swear it was 60º on this day, and I really felt I had no other choice. I’ve been so inspired by the shorts-suits I’ve seen on the Lemaire runways over the seasons, and this look is my version of that, but not quite that.
When it came to jewelry, throughout I the week, I mostly rotated through “sets” I had established mentally—this was the first day wearing my gold trifecta: Completedworks ear cuff, Agmes brooch, Casa Shop ring. Their boldness and organic curvature especially complemented the Mulberry bag’s twists, turns, and tonal hardware.
Day 2, Look 2
Rosetta Getty denim blazer (similar from Magda Butrym, $1,245) / Rosetta Getty Tailored Vest, $195 $895 / Jeanerica GW009 Gaia in Blue Vein, $96 $240 / Banana Republic Ribbed Cap Sleeve T-Shirt, $45 / Savette Bucket in Clay Suede, $1,190 / vintage Dolce & Gabbana heels (similar from Staud, $295)
A Rosetta Getty juxedo for dinner with the brand at Casino on Saturday night. The brand was kind enough to lend me a set, but as it sometimes goes with samples, I was swimming in the long-legged denim trousers. I completed the matching blazer and vest with a pair of my own Jeanerica jeans, the only pair I find myself wearing that aren’t vintage Levi’s.
Day 3, Look 1
Magliano car coat (similar, $1,348) / Savette Bucket in Clay Suede, $1,190 / Maison Margiela Tabi Ballerina Flats, $790
By Malene Birger Morila Sweater, $480 / Dissh crochet skirt (similar, $149) / Sophie Buhai Everyday Hoops, $162 $275 / Ayllon Sonia Ring, $142
This Magliano coat is one of those “personal archive” items that doesn’t get the everyday wear of other pieces in my closet, but which I’m hanging onto as I’m certain the Milanese designer is headed for even bigger things. Its broad shoulders and askew belt are details that make it a collector’s piece whose worth will only increase as history continues to write itself.
With it is Savette’s mini bucket bag, which by contrast will be incorporated into looks ad nauseam; I only got it this week and, as you can see above, have already worn it twice in a row.
Day 3, Look 2
Almada Label Ivy Mohair Coat, $860 / Tibi Victor Slingback, $595 / Cesta Collective Bow Party Pail, $595 / Sophie Buhai Everyday Hoops, $162 $275 / Ayllon Sonia Ring, $142
Tibi Silk Habutai Circular Top, $495 / Tibi Silk Habutai Circular Seamed Skirt, $695
While it was a shame to cover up this incredible Tibi silk skirt and top set (the temps sank back down to the 40ºs), the Almada Label coat gave me nothing to feel sad about…two looks in one! The hair-peeking-through-the-keyhole detail was reserved for those who saw me shed my outerwear, but the ingenious pocket slingbacks, clearly visible under the layered hemlines, were thankfully for all inquisitive eyes.
Day 4, Look 1
Studio Nicholson Ria Coat, $1,100 / Kallmeyer SS24 cardigan (similar from Maria McManus, $375 $690) / vintage pleated trousers (similar from Theory, $225 $375) / Banana Republic Ribbed Cap Sleeve T-Shirt, $45 / LoQ Camila Heels (similar from Co, $595) / vintage Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Hobo, $1,495 / Agmes Bubble Hoops, $370
Day four—which as you’ll notice is the last on this list as the snowstorm and need to work kept me indoors for the remaining days—called for an easier getup. I called on some old favorites (the Studio Nicholson coat, the Bottega bag, the vintage pants I’ve worn for years) and folded in a new favorite, this SS24 Kallmeyer knit that’ll hit shelves soon.
Day 4, Look 2
Studio Nicholson Denali Coat, $915 / Puppets and Puppets Cutout Stirrup Leggings (available in white, $248 $495 or similar from Los Angeles Apparel, $32) / Rouje Abelia Sandals (similar from Neous, $595 or similar from Reformation, $278) / Ayllon Casilda Pouch, $191
Banana Republic Ribbed Cap Sleeve T-Shirt, $45 / Agmes Gertrude Brooch, $460 / Completedworks gold ear cuff (available in resin, $70 $175 and similar from Missoma, $51) / vintage ring from Casa Shop (similar, $1,200) / my grandmother’s leather gloves (similar from Cos, $99)
The news that this would be Puppets and Puppets’ last runway was enough for me to dig my can’t-divide-by-zero-ROI lace leggings from the brand out of early retirement, and I think they handled the last hurrah with aplomb. Their partner in crime, this Studio Nicholson trench, is a chimera I’m only just getting to know—ladylike in its length and viscose fluidity, but with the androgynous edge of a drop-waist belt and raglan sleeve. I feel very cool wearing it, whatever that means.
The gold jewelry trio that throughlined the week was yet again present, with one small amendment: the Casa Shop gold-and-emerald ring that’s scarcely left my index finger was reassigned to the leather pinky of my grandmother’s gloves.
