196: A J.Crew skirt that scratches my Alaïa itch
Prada work jackets, a new The Row "It" bag, Jil Sander boots that made me gasp.
Among all of the incredible pieces I’m bookmarking from the first spring deliveries are several from Bottega Veneta, including these trompe l’oeil sock-boots, despite the words I might have tossed around immediately after seeing the collection go down the runway (“humorless” may have been one of them, but sometimes the parts are greater than their sum); these twerked matchstick earrings are also Bottega, an extension of the success of their teardrop earrings in a very me shade of blue; this suede blazer from Madga Butrym reminded me of my pink Prada one, and while it’s not exactly a deal (it’s $3,150), it is cheaper, and the complete logolessness is definitely a draw for the brand agnostic out there; on the other end of the affiliation spectrum, Prada’s work jacket is finally here—it can’t be Carhartt with a little triangle patch precisely where your heart is, right?; J.Crew is doing very good skirts, specifically, like this Miu Miu-ish pleated number that kind of fulfills the pleated Alaia-shaped ache in my soul, and this patent red pencil that’ll likely sell out just as fast as the silver one did during holiday and again very recently by my count; and this Toteme woven ballet flat is proof enough to me that we’re not, as a culture, over this style slipper shoe—nor should we be!
I out-loud gasped when I saw these Jil Sander boots this week…my wedge boot curiosity from two winters ago went dormant but was aggressively reawakened by the hidden lift (hi George Santos) and bucket shaft on these beauties; SSENSE’s Marie Adam-Leenaerdt buy is on the more ambitious side—as it should be—but Net picked up a few pieces that highlight the new-name-to-know’s more wardrobe-integrating capabilities, as with these exquisitely cut high-waisted wool trousers; a shrunken track jacket from Martine Rose is an unlikely layering star with potential as outerwear and innerwear (t-shirt underneath and blazer on top, say); this spiraled JW Anderson knit dress communicates the holy trifecta we shop for when presenting ourselves to strangers-and-friends-to-be (the stuff of wedding-guest dresses): flattering, opinionated, and tapped-in; last Bottega on this list, but I couldn’t help it—between the signature Intrecciato, the organic green, and the flat profile, this shoulder bag has the effect of having just unfurled like a newborn frond from a palm tree; and our girl Agmes is now on Net, with a new, bigger, city armor-inspired collection that I fell to my knees for when I saw it in person yesterday.
Yes, Rosie Assoulin does color like no other, but she also does black and white at full-strength—I’m manifesting an occasion to wear this tonal gown; New York’s most elusive minimalist brand Fforme slyly eked out a handsome wool blazer with exceedingly well-done balloon sleeves, a thoughtful crop, and a very good (dare I say priestly?) collar; this The Row Abby Bag is the brand’s new hot entry-level accessory, usurping the Half-Moon Bag, just calling it FYI; if you weren’t following along my pilgrimage to The Row store on 71st via the chat or IG stories, it was a success story that ended with me getting this Xhefri hat (Greta Lee being the inspo, Danielle Goldberg you are everything for this look); and Dries’ shoes are so fucking hot right now between these schoolgirlish patent pumps (from what I’ve dubbed the “Harry Potter” collection, lol) and these curvy beaded sandals.
