Despite Wednesday’s “stolen” gift guide, my specialty is actually (naturally) in self-gifting. And with that particular flavor of holiday spirit in mind, I’m introducing a new way to share the things I’m tempted to buy.
I’ve kept wishlists across the shoppable internet for as long as I can remember—all private, thus far—and after getting requests from readers to share them over the years, I’ve found a way to publish them through a new tab on the Magasin landing page: SAVED.
On SAVED, you can now find lists of the latest items I’m bookmarking, with separate sections for resale (because it moves so quickly) and home. Basically, whenever I find something I like or want to remember—anything from pipe-dream investment pieces to might-buy-it-just-because-the-price-is-so-good—I’ll drop it into one of these lists. What I see, you see.
Unsurprisingly, this means updates on a very frequent basis. But, to give you a sense of what to expect, some of the latest additions include a Bottega trompe l’oeil double sweater, a boxy Hermes cashmere beret, The Row pumps for $206, Emme Parsons holiday flats, and a Boyd & Allister floating bed.
If this is interesting to you, one suggestion would be to bookmark this link, since I won’t be making a fuss in the newsletter every time I add a boot, you know? You’ll also always be able to find it at the top nav bar of the Magasin site under “SAVED.”
Another new way to discover.
SECONDLY, I only now realized that the Magasin chat—a Substack product that I enabled months ago and forgot to check in on—has been reclaimed by readers and taken on a new life as a kind of peer-to-peer shopping-recommendation platform.
A recent call out for low-heeled city boots was met with suggestions for Aeyde, Marion Parke Pauline Booties, Labucq Caros, Phillip Lim Alexas, and A.Emery Somas (I have these! Can attest to their greatness).
Meanwhile, a request for a “tasteful and respectful revenge dress to wear to a wedding” (!!!) had people sending over links for Paris Georgia’s Micah dress, Georgia Hardinge’s Indra, Mara Hoffman’s Nysa, and Staud’s Ashanti.
A question about men’s outerwear led to solutions that ranged from searching eBay for vintage Burberry from Japanese sellers and finding specialist dealers of vintage military coats to endorsements of Mr. Porter’s selection of Danish brands: Mfpen, NN07, and Sunflower.
There are chats running polls on which colorway shoe to buy, chats re-selling clothes, chats about the “worth it”-ness of Babaa sweaters, chats about Christmassy activities in New York, chats about comps for MNZ Dance Pants, all of which have dozens of replies from people doing it for the love of the game.
What can I say? I fucking love this community.
I may earn some money if you make a purchase through one of the links above. If you liked this post from Magasin, why not share it?
