I mentioned it here a while ago, but I had kept this MNZ knit in my SSENSE wishlist for several weeks before eventually dining next to a woman with an Annabelle Dexter-Jones haircut at King in the West Village who ended up being my catalyst to go full throttle on the summer vest.

To me, inspiration that strikes within touching distance will always trump influence through a screen.

I’ve been unable to quit my black tank habit since we retired outerwear for the season (these Gap ones are my latest go-tos), and this Maryam gillet achieves a similar effect while affording me a boulevardier air. The whole exercise is very first-name Giorgio.

Maryam Nassir Zadeh Apollo vest, $183 $290 (also here and here) / Dries Van Noten skirt, (similar, $322) / Martiniano High Glove heels, $536 / vintage shell purse (similar, $30, similar, $25) / Colorful Standard socks, $11

I call this the 5pm look because it has an errands energy about it (surely attributable to that studious, Matt Damon-y vest) yet leaves near to nothing to the imagination with a sheer Dries skirt that I wear often as a proud favorites-player. Hence: a happy hour outfit.

Maryam Nassir Zadeh Apollo vest, $183 $290 (also here and here) / Colbo shorts, $225 / Jil Sander Goji Bamboo bag, $1,293 $1,990 / Saint belt, $220 / vintage Giuseppe Zanotti heels (similar, $32)

Has anyone ever worn shorts better than Laura Dern in Jurassic Park? This one’s like the alternate universe where those reanimated fossils stayed in their paddocks and she had to instead very quickly get to jazz night at Nine Orchard.

I’m gutted that these Colbo shorts are sold out because they’re so fun and easy to wear, but these from Auralee and these others from Kaptain Sunshine are what I’d get if I didn’t already have them.

Maryam Nassir Zadeh Apollo vest, $183 $290 (also here and here) / Cerric track pants, $121 / Jil Sander Scrunch Clutch, $486 $1,350 / The Row satin kitten heels (similar, $624 $790)

ICYMI, track pants go with anything, and so does this vest. It figures the two would eventually meet. The white-on-bottom-black-on-top outfit formula rears its head time and time again, but it’s always more satisfying to iterate away from of the jeans-and-tank template.

I wouldn’t trade my MNZ vest for any other, but options are always good: Here’s a chevron knit from Co (very luxe), a super close match but with a round neck from Nili Lotan, and a nicely priced one from Soeur that also comes in some great, personality-forward colors.
